Christmas In The Valley Starts Friday

Frosty has stops scheduled in Water Valley Friday night at Christmas in the Valley and again during Saturday’s parade. In case of inclement weather, the parade will be postponed until the following Saturday, Dec. 10.

Carriage rides add to the festive mood as part of Friday’s lineup in this weekend’s “Christmas in the Valley.”

WATER VALLEY – This year’s Christmas in the Valley will be another fun-filled weekend with a two-day lineup of events as the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce promotes local businesses and provides holiday activities Friday and Saturday.

The action gets underway Friday night, Dec. 4, with Christmas in the Valley from 5 to 8 p.m.

“Come out and hear some great Christmas music, take a carriage ride down Main Street and do some shopping in our local stores and businesses,” invites Chamber President Toni Hill.  “Merchants are planning to stay open later that night for your convenience, and lots of live holiday music will be available on the bandstand for your listening pleasure,” Hill added.

Back by popular demand, the horse-drawn carriage rides are always a favorite, so bring your family or that special someone to town for a fun carriage ride.  Tickets are $3 per person and may be purchased at the chamber office.  Frosty the Snowman will be making an appearance at “Christmas in the Valley” and will be happy to pose for pictures!

The chamber also sponsors an annual Christmas Tour of Homes, giving attendees the opportunity to view four homes that are beautifully decorated for Christmas.  This event is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.  Participating homeowners this year are  Sarah Nell Trusty Champion, 308 Clay St.; Dr. Gil and Jerri Anne Davis, The Lee House at 114 McLarty Circle; Yvonne Vance, 111 Leland St.; and Richard and Karen Waring, 204 Dupuy St.  Refreshments will be served at each home.  Wristband tickets are $10 each and are available for purchase at the chamber office.

Wristband tickets will also be sold during “Christmas in the Valley” on Friday night and the Christmas parade on Saturday, and again from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday evening, all at the chamber office only.  No tickets will be sold at any of the homes, and you must present your wristband for admittance to each home.  There will be no early admissions into the homes prior to 4 p.m. on the day of the event.

Two additional local events are also scheduled Friday night, Dec. 2.  Yalobusha Brewing Company will offer Tour and Tastings with live music from “Southern Avenue,” and Bozart’s Art Alliance invites everyone to their upcoming exhibition, the 9th Annual Holiday Miniatures Show.  Join them for the opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m.  The show will run until December 20.

On Saturday, Dec.3, Leigh Rounsaville will be taking “Pictures with Santa” on the bandstand from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to the Christmas parade.

Water Valley’s much-anticipated annual parade will roll down Main Street, starting at 1 p.m. The parade starts at the First Baptist Church and proceeds southward, down Main Street.  Contact J. C. Womble if you are interested in participating in this year’s Christmas Parade.  See the Chamber of Commerce ad on page 2 for his contact information.

“This weekend promises to be filled with some very entertaining family events.  We hope you will join in and have some fun.  Do some no-stress, early shopping right here in the Valley, and you can check off some of those gift items on your Christmas List, too!,” Hill added.
