Dorothy Fern Day Lowry


SOUTHAVEN—Dorothy Fern Day Lowry, age 93, died Thursday, May 3, 2018, at her home in Southaven.


Born January 6, 1925, in Pontiac, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Evert Monroe and Clara Stevenson Day. Dorothy was of the Baptist faith. She moved to Detroit at the end of World War II and went to work at an airplane factory. She later married and worked as office manager and bookkeeper for Winter’s Electric Company in Oxford, which she and her husband owned. But Dorothy’s true love was caring for children, and she took care of most of the children in Water Valley until her late 70s.


A graveside service was held Monday, May 7, at 2 p.m. in the Anchor Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Bill Forsyth officiating. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley had charge of arrangements.


Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Brenda Dee Henderson (Donald) of Water Valley and Linda Lee Wright (Perch) of Southaven; her brother, Richard E. Day (Roseann) of Imlay City, Mich.;  grandchildren, Glenda Henderson Gordon, Melinda Henderson Grimmett (Michael), Edee Grace Henderson, all of Water Valley, Richard Wright (Michelle) of Olive Branch, John Wright (Karen), Spartenberg, South Carolina, Shane Wright (Mandy) of Olive Branch, and Kim Winters; and ten great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor Lowry; her son, Raymond Earl Winters; her sisters, Mary L. O’Dell, Anna Mae Carl, and Jean Zawsolak; a brother, Kenneth Day; and a granddaughter, Jo Henderson Lewis.

Charles Wilford McCullough


BATESVILLE—Charles “Arnie” Wilford McCullough, 86, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018, in the Diversicare Center at Batesville.

  
Visitation was held Sunday, May 6, from 1-2 p.m. in Coleman Funeral Home at Oxford. The funeral service immediately followed in the funeral home. Interment was in the Paris Cemetery with Bro. Rick Glidewell officiating. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.


Mr. McCullough was born in Paris. He served as a shop steward in the clothing manufacturing union. He was also affiliated with Ducks Unlimited, the Cattleman’s Association, the National Rifle Association and the VFW. He served our country as a paratrooper in the United States Army. He was a member of Paris Baptist Church. Best known as an avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He was fascinated by the game of baseball. If you asked Mr. McCullough who his favorite team was, his answer would always be, “Whatever team my grandkids are playing on!” His family was always  his pride and joy.


Survivors include his daughter, Tina Mills (Terry) of Paris; two sons, Charles McCullough (Suzanne) of Water Valley and Sidney McCullough (Dawn) of Batesville; one daughter-in-law, Linda McCullough of Paris; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a  host of nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pearl McCullough; three sons, Ricky McCullough, Brooks McCullough, and Robert McCullough; one brother, Brooks McCullough; a sister, Lela Mae Wells; and his parents, Eugene McCullough and Lottie McCullough.


In honor of Mr. McCullough, the flag of the United Army will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home.
