Planning Underway In Oakland For First Annual  Fall Harvest Festival
  Join The Word of Life Ministries and the Oakland Community on Saturday, October 27, for the first annual Oakland Community Fall Harvest Festival. There will be vendors, political candidates, state and local officials, as well as community leaders, and many fun activities for the youth as well as the adults. The Festival is to promote the Oakland Community and to bring exposure to the needs of the community as well. Booth rental space is available. “Come out and be a part of this history making event,” stated Charlotte Crowder.

VFW Bingo Action Set For Friday Night
  VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, September 21. Come join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of Bingo in their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games will be played at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Danny Sexton Band Will Perform At VFW
  The VFW Saturday Night Dance has live music every Saturday night. Featured on September 22 will be Danny Sexton’s Band. Music begins at 8 p.m. and plays until Midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to Country Music at the Post Home, located at 11535 Hwy. 315, west of Water Valley,” invites Commander Joe Gross.

VFW Meeting Scheduled For Thursday
  Veterans of Foreign Wars and VFW Ladies Auxiliary will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, September 20, beginning at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend—your presence is needed. The VFW is also seeking new members.

First Christian Church Plans Blood Drive
  The First Christian Church of Water Valley will host a blood drive in connection with Mississippi Blood Services.  This drive will take place at the church fellowship hall, Tuesday, September 25, from 3 – 8 p.m. The church is located at 1020 North Main Street, across from the city park.  Your blood is needed as there is always a critical need for blood in Mississippi.

Red One Rook Tourney Scheduled At Cossar State Park On September 22
  There will be a Red One Rook Tournament at Cossar State Park in the Visitor Center, beginning at 6 p.m., Saturday, September 22. Please call Cossar State Park, (662) 623-7356, to pre-register.

Gospel Music Singing Will Be Performed At Cossar On September 27
  A gospel music singing will be held at Cossar State Park in the Visitor Center, Thursday, September 27, from 7 -8:30 p.m. Featured will be Pat Cole from Batesville and Tim Reeves from Oxford.

Senior Ads Now On Sale
  Would you like to recognize your graduating senior? You may do so by placing an ad in the Water Valley High School annual. This ad may include a small personal note, a poem, and/or picture of your senior.
    All seniors will receive information regarding the ad sizes and prices, but if you fail to receive this you may contact Jo Ann King at 473-4864 to request this information. The deadline to turn in the ad is September 21.

Pink Ladies Yard Sale Set For First Weekend In October
  Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will have a yard sale October 4, 5, and 6. If you have any clean, useable items that are cluttering up your closets, garages, or attics, the Pink Ladies will be glad to pick them up. Also, they would like to have any plants that you would donate (they state that they know many folks don’t keep their plants over the winter and they would like to have them for this sale).  County Wide Revival Planning Underway
  All pastors and ministers who serve in Yalobusha County are invited to attend a meeting to discuss plans for a county-wide revival. “You are invited to attend this meeting no matter what your race or gender,” stated Minister Lawrence Matthews. The meeting will be held September 22, beginning at 9 a.m., in the Mt. Moriah Association Building in Coffeeville. “I was given a word from God to call this meeting of all pastors and ministers about a community revival in the Yalobusha area,” concluded Minister Matthews.

Historical Society Plans Thursday Event
The Yalobusha County Historical Society, Inc., will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, in the fellowship hall of the Methodist Church in Coffeeville. This will be one of the most unique meetings the Society has ever had – “Show and Tell.” Members (and visitors) are encouraged to bring very old items that have been in their family for many years, or something unique that has an interesting history. (or some of both) The public is invited to all Society meetings.

Masonic Meeting This Thursday
  Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will have a called Communication on Thursday, September 20th. The purpose of this meeting is to confer a Master Masons Degree. “The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a Pot Luck Supper and the Degree Work will begin at 7:00 p.m.,” states Freddie McDougal, WM.

Diabetic Wellness Team To Hold Monthly Meeting On September 26
  The Water Valley Diabetic Wellness Team will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 26, at noon in the Edgar Community Center Building in Rolling Hills. The public is invited to attend.

DES Parent Support Group Scheduled Sept. 27 Meeting
  The Davidson Elementary Parent Support Group will meet Thursday, September 27, at 7 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria. Chester Drewrey, Principal, encourages all parents to attend this meeting.

Helping Hands Fundraiser Scheduled
  The Helping Hand Association fundraiser will be held Saturday, September 29, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Mason Hall at Oakland. Fish and chicken plates will be served for $5. Everyone is invited to come and either dine-in or carry-out.

Community Choir Will Have Benefit Program
  There will be a benefit program for Sis. Maudie Benson October 13, beginning at 5 p.m. in Miles Memorial Church. This benefit is sponsored by the Water Valley Community Choir. Martha Telford is president and Calvin Hawkins is the director. “Everyone is invited to come and support a worthy cause and show your love,” stated Mr. Hawkins.

Saving Grace Concert Planned On Sept. 28
