Time Again To Place Your Christmas Cheese Orders

It took the remnants of Hurricane Humberto to bring me a rain at my house, but even the storm couldn’t bring Pamela Redwine, our Nutrition and Food Safety Area Agent, her second child.  However, little Anderson Slade Redwine (“Andy”) arrived a few days later on Saturday, September 15, 2007.  Congratulations to Pamela, husband Slade, and daughter Abby on the birth of Andy Redwine.  He weighed in at 8 lb. 12 oz. and was 20 inches long.  All are doing just fine.  For those of you who do not know Pamela that well, she is a very detailed person who plans everything to a tee.  So, it was no surprise that Pamela’s baby arrived on the date she had wrote on her calendar.  

Well, it’s that time again!  It’s time to place your Christmas cheese orders, and this year we are including other gift-packaged products as well.  We will be glad to pick up your orders again this year.  All orders guaranteed for Christmas must be placed at the MSU cheese store by November 1, 2007.  

Cheese Information:

Edam cheese ball (3 lbs.)  – $18.00—Named for perhaps the most noted cheese market, the town of Edam, Holland. Mississippi State University has been making Edam since the early 1940s and is one of the few manufacturing facilities for this cheese in the United States.

Reduced fat Edam cheese ball (3 lbs.) – $19.00—Same as the Edam cheese above, but containing one-third less fat.

Cheddar cheese block (2 lbs.)  – $12.00—Named for the village of Cheddar, England, where cheddar cheese was first made. It has been such a popular food in the United States that is has often been incorrectly called American cheese. Cheddar cheese is made by a manufacturing procedure called cheddaring in an effort to achieve the original flavor and texture of cheddar cheese so much in demand.

Jalapeno pepper cheese block (2 lbs.)  – $12.00—Made by mixing and heating several lots of natural cheese (cheese made directly from milk) with emulsifying agents and jalapeno peppers.

Crock of Jalapeno pepper cheese spread – $12.00—A processed cheese made from either Edam or cheddar cheese and peppers and then packaged in a reusable 20-ounce crock.

Crock of cheese spread – $12.00—Processed cheese made from natural cheese and packaged in a reusable 20-ounce crock.

Vallagret wheel (2 lbs) – $14.00—Norwegian style of Swiss cheese that has a slightly sweet-nutty taste. The combination of the sweet-nutty taste and the cheese character make it a treat.

If you would like to order any of these cheeses or gift packs, please call our office at 675-2730 and we will send in your order for you. We need all orders in by Friday, October 26, 2007 for the order to be guaranteed. To save shipping charges, our office will pick-up the cheese orders in early December.
