Methodist Men Will Provide Christmas Trees To Needy Families

    The First United Methodist Church Men will be providing free locally-grown red cedar Christmas trees to needy families during December. If you know of a family who will not have a Christmas tree this year, please contact the First United Methodist Church at 473-2682 or James Person at 473-6953.

Jeff Davis Schedules Christmas Reunion

  Jeff Davis School will hold its Christmas reunion on Saturday, December 1, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Masonic Lodge on Champion Circle. “Please bring a covered dish and join us for a fun fellowship,” says Jim Tate, Program Committee Chairman. All former students, their families and friends are invited to attend.

Chamber Will Sponsor Lighting Contest

    The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a holiday lighting contest. Prizes will be offered in two categories: business and residential. First place finishers in each category will receive $100; second place will receive $75 and third place will receive $50. 

VFW Will Have Bingo Action

  VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, November 30. Join VFW Post 4100 members for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Hog Wild Country Band Will PerformAt VFW Dance Saturday

  It’s party time at VFW Post 4100, Water Valley. The Saturday Night VFW dances features a live band each week and featured on December 1 will be the Hog Wild Country Band. Music begins at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to country music at the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Joe Gross.

Oakland Annouces Christmas Bazaar

  A Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, December 1, from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the old Oakland School on Highway 51. New and used items will be offered for sale. Food will also be available and there will be a raffle. Vendors are needed. If you would like to participate in this project call R. Reed at (662) 609-0827 or L. Earl at (662) 623-7293. Proceeds from this event will be used for restoration of the old school.

Literary Club Will Dedicate Flag Pole At Blackmur Memorial Library

  A dedication ceremony for the new flag pole at Blackmur Memorial Library will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 30. The flag pole was donated by the Water Valley Literary Club. The public is cordially invited to attend this cermony and refreshments will be served.

Lions Will Flip Pancakes Saturday

  The Water Valley Lions Club first Saturday pancake breakfast will be served Saturday, December 1, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. in the Depot Building on Main Street. For $4 per plate, you may enjoy all the pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice you desire.

  Orders may be placed for Christmas cheese boxes on this date or you may place orders  with any Lions member. A limited amount of cheese will also be available on Saturday.

  Net proceeds from these events will fund the many Lions Club projects.

Pink Ladies Express Gratitude

  The Yalobusha General  Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) wish to thank everyone who baked and purchased items from their annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale. “Thanks to you the sale was a success,” they say.

Library Plans Pajama Storytime with Santa

  The Library Staff is looking for kids of all ages to come to  out to Blackmur Memorial Library on Saturday, December 15, at 10 a.m. for “Storytime With Santa”. You can wear your pajamas and fuzzy slippers to this event! Santa will have lots of goodies for those of you who have been very, very good this year.  

    Also, you can enjoy refreshments with Santa. So mark your calendars and come out for a fun-filled morning with Santa and the library staff. Blackmur Memorial Library is located at 608 Blackmur Drive. For more information, contact the library at (662) 473-2444.

Helping Hands Sets Annual Fundraiser

  The Helping Hands Association will have their annual fundraiser singing program December 1, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Masonic Hall at Oakland. “We are inviting everyone to come and participate in this event because of the people’s lives we can help,” stated Min. Lillie Ray and Sis. Emogene E. Benson.
