Street Talk

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas as the downtown merchants deck their stores in Christmas finery.

If you’re having a hard time getting in the holiday spirit take a walk along Main Street. If the decorations at the Village Flower Shop, Carolyn’s Flowers and Gifts, Velvet Glove and Turnage Drug Store don’t put you in the Christmas spirit then you must be a Grinch.

This time of year is also a good time to think about shopping at home.

This Thursday night, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. the Town and Country Garden Club and Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Railroad Park Pavilion. After the tree lighting, the Chamber will serve hot chocolate and Renasant Bank will give away popcorn.

The Water Valley Main Street Association worked with the downtown merchants to be open after the ceremony until 8 o’clock.  (For a list of the participating businesses see the ad in this week’s Herald.)

Shoppers will be treated to cookies and other treats as carolers sing familiar holiday tunes on Main Street.

Any item purchased at the participating stores can be taken to 403 Main Street for free gift wrapping by the Crown Club of the Junior Auxiliary.

Make plans to join us Thursday evening and visit with friends, watch the children smile and their eyes light up as they see the Christmas tree, sip a cup of hot chocolate, snack on some popcorn, and sample the homemade treats as you shop downtown.

We want you to have a good time and enjoy the festivities and see what our merchants have to offer and come back another day.
