Water Valley’s Main Street Feels Like Christmas
by Jessie Gurner
It’s the first week of December, Christmas is just around the corner and time is ticking away!
Some Holiday shoppers jump-started the season last Thursday night with an evening of shopping downtown after Mrs. Santa directed the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the Railroad Park Pavilion.
Members of the First Baptist Church choir added the Christmas feeling as they sang carols while everyone gathered to listen and sip hot chocolate. There was also popcorn. It might look Christmasy strung on trees, but it’s even better with hot chocolate and carols.
The young ladies of the Crown Club, which is sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary, did a superb job of wrapping all the Christmas goodies purchased that evening.
All the stores were decked to the walls for the occasion. One of the things that I love most about the downtown Water Valley is that Christmas time is left for Christmas. Some big box stores had Christmas decorations up before Halloween. I look forward every year to the decorations going up in parks, along the streets and in the stores. That’s when it begins to feel like Christmas!
Remember that when you buy from a local store, the money is recycled locally and is not sent off to some corporate office where our community never sees that money again. So, this Christmas check out Water Valley businesses first.
