Christmas is almost here and if you’re like me you haven’t finished shopping. Each year I promise myself that I will do things differently, and each year I wait until the last minute.
There is one advantage to this procrastination. Living in a small town makes last minute shopping a lot more fun than being in a city and being squeezed shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of others in some big box.
Shopping locally also means that my money goes to people who, like me, live and work in the town we love. Being the owner of a small business is very difficult. It takes true dedication, hard work and support from residents to keep going from year to year, and the holiday shopping season is especially important in making enough revenue to stay in business.
Another thing I enjoy about shopping in Water Valley is the atmosphere. The people are friendly and helpful and there’s always time to take a minute to stop and talk and catch-up on all the goings-on in the area.
Shopping in town not only helps our local merchants, it also helps take away some of the stress of last minute Christmas shopping.
The economic health of the Water Valley is deeply connected to the success of its business community.
You can spend your money elsewhere, which does nothing to support the town you call home. Or you can do your small part to help out friends and neighbors.
If I don’t see you during my last minute shopping spree, I want to wish everyone happy holidays and Merry Christmas!
