Happy Birthday To Us

Water Valley will be celebrating the city’s sesquicentennial with Founders Day festivities on April 19, 2008.

That’s right, Water Valley is 150 years young! The city was granted a Charter from the State of Mississippi on April 26, 1858.

The Main Street Association is helping organizing a series of Founders Day events. We want it to be a celebration that will help us remember where we were 150 years ago, where we are now, and how we will move toward our future.

As part of the celebration, WVMSA will put together a time capsule. Some items traditionally contained in these are letters to future generations, photographs of people, buildings, and special events, newspaper clippings, clothes, music, recordings of people talking/telling stories, telephone directories and descriptions of what life is like. Remember that items for a time capsule cannot be perishable. Nobody wants a 150-year-old piece of cornbread!

Each item needs to have a specific purpose or meaning for Water Valley. We want future generations to know how proud we are of our city and to see how we helped lay the foundation for what is to come.

What would you like to see included in the time capsule? Please email your suggestions to, call 473-6767 or come by the recently renovated WVMSA office at 207 N. Main Street.

It’s great to see a new business on Main Street!

April Pullen is opening Valley Dance Company at 403 Main Street and will offer classes in jazz, tap and ballet for ages 3-18.  For more information please contact April at 473-4607.
