Memorial Service Scheduled For Nicky Lewis

  A memorial service for Nicky Lewis will be held Saturday, January 26, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Water Valley Church of Christ.

Yalobusha Educational Retirees
Will Meet Thursday

  The Yalobusha County Retired Educational Personnel Association will meet Thursday, January 24, in the Mechanics Bank Community Room at Water Valley, beginning at 10 a.m.

    “We gladly welcome new members. All members are urged to be present. We need your support, input, and attendance,” stated Mrs. Mamie H. Shields, President, and Dorothy A. Kee, Secretary.

Bingo Action Offered At VFW Post 4100

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, January 25. Everyone is invited to come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of Bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games will be played at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Come Shake A Leg At The VFW Dance

  The regular VFW Saturday Night Dance will be held January 26. A live band is featured each Saturday night and this week the band will be Danny Sexton’s Band. Music begins at 8 pm. and plays until midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to country music at the Post Home, located at 11535, Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” says Commander Joe Gross.

Masonic Officers Will Be Installed Thursday

  St. Cyr Commandery No. 6 will holds its next stated meeting on Thursday, January 24, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. New officers for the coming year will be installed at this meeting. The Installation will be open to family and friends and will begin with a Pot Luck Supper at 6:30. Officers are requested to be in full dress uniform. “Please support your Commandery by making a special effort to attend,” stated Greg Dykes, Commander.

Relay For Life Planning Underway Upcoming With Team Commitment Night

 Team Commitment Night for Yalobusha County Relay For Life 2008 will be held Tuesday, January 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the Mechanics Bank Community Room. All Team Captains and any team members are urged to attend. “Please be there to kick-off this year’s Relay,” says Jonnie Mayo.

  The slogan for 2008 Relay For Life is “Celebrate—Remember—Fight Back” and the goal is $81,500.

  Relay For Life 2008 will be held Friday, April 25, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Crawford Sports Complex.

Singing, Supper Benefit Planned
For Longtime Gospel Singer

  There will be a benefit singing, auction and soup/chili supper for Dexter Pennington. He has sung gospel music for over 30 years with the Gospelaires and now with the Fishers of Men Quartet. This event will take place on Saturday, January 26, beginning at 5 p.m. at The Fishin’ Hole, located on Highways 6/76 between Pontotoc and Oxford. Look for signs. Donations will be accepted.

Master Gardener Classes Will
Start February 26

    There will be Master Gardener Training class every Tuesday and Thursday beginning February 26 and ending April 3.  The classes will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  The cost for the class is $85, which includes the manual, refreshments, and other materials.  

    Once you have completed this training you will become a certified Master Gardener.  Yalobusha County has an active Master Gardener group that does numerous horticulture related community activities.  If you are interested in this class, I encourage you to call our office at 675-2730 for further information and sign up by February 15.

Food Safety Certification Class

ServSafe Food Certification Class will be taught every Monday afternoon 1 – 5 pm in March (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st ), 2008, at the Yalobusha County Extension Service.  Cost of the course is $125.  The deadline to register is February 18, 2008, and the class is limited to 25 people.  Call the Yalobusha County Extension Service at (662) 675-2730 for additional details and to register.  When calling to sign up, please inform the office of any disabilities that might interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program.  The MSU Extension Service provides educational opportunities to the public on an equal opportunity basis and will make every reasonable effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Extension Service to Host Quick Bites Program

On Thursday, January 24, there will be a Quick Bites entitled “Design Foundations-Mechanics for Fresh Flower Designs”.  This program will be live from the Floral Studio at the University Florist on the campus of Mississippi State University, presented by James DelPrince, Associate Professor of Floral Design.  This program is free and open to the public, so please bring a sack lunch and join us for a fun and informative program.
