Sexton Will Entertain At VWF
“It’s party time at VFW Post 4100, Water Valley,” says Commander Joe Gross. A live band is featured every Saturday night and on March 8, featured will be the Danny Sexton Band. Music begins at 8 p.m. and continues until midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to country music at the Post Home located at 11535 Hwy. 315, west of Water Valley,” concludes Commander Gross.
Masons Will Meet Thursday, March 6
Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will hold its next regular stated Communication at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “We urge you to support your local Lodge,” says J. W. Tuggle, WM.
Fundraiser Will Benefit Art Scholarship
The first annual performing arts scholarship fundraiser will be held in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium March 21, beginning at 6 p.m. All citizens of Water Valley and the surrounding areas are invited to attend.
Everyone is invited to celebrate Youth Vineyard’s first annual Performing Arts Scholarship Fund and help support FCCLA Member Roykeisha (Keke) Rockette. She was named Water Valley School District’s song leader for 2006 and 2007. There will be acting, dancing, modeling, singing and poetry reading. All acts will consist of local community members.
Special guests will be Mr. Hayden and Mrs. Anderson, teachers at Water Valley High School and a Beyonce impersonator. Tickets will be $7 in advance, $10 at the door, or $5 for High School Seniors. For tickets call (662) 609-5029 or (662) 473-8306.
CPA Will Assist Seniors With Tax Returns For Rebate Check Eligibility
CPA Joe Black will be at Turnage Drug Store Saturday, March 8, from 1-5 p.m. to fill out special income tax returns for people who receive Social Security benefits, but are not normally required to file a tax return.
Black advises those needing this service to bring their Social Security Form SSA-1099 received earlier this year. To be eligible to file this special return, you must also not have filed a tax return in 2007. This special tax return is required to be eligible for the tax rebate being distributed this year by the federal government. If you fail to file a tax return you will not be eligible for the rebate.
“There is no charge for this service but it is only provided to persons who need to file this year to receive the rebate,” Black said.
Yalobusha Homemakers Sponsor First Annual Quilt Show
The local Yalobusha Homemakers are sponsoring their first annual quilt show on Saturday, May 10. The show will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Multi-purpose Building in Coffeeville on Hwy. 7 in Coffeeville.

Fundraiser Set For Mize Endowment
The third annual fundraiser for the Kayla Sue Mize Endowment will be held Thursday, March 6, in Oxford High School. This year’s Kayla Gala features a dinner, theatre, silent auction and live performances in the Kayla Mize Auditorium. It begins with the silent auction opening at 5 p.m. , dinner at 6:30, and entertainment at 7:30. All proceeds benefit the Kayla Sue Mize Endowment, providing scholarships at both Oxford and Lafayette Schools and additional support for the performing arts throughout the community.
Yalobusha Medical Staff Will Sell Cakes For Cancer Fundraiser
The staff at Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home will serve funnel cakes in the parking lot Friday, March 7, from noon to 1:30 for $5 each. Proceeds will go the the American Cancer Society for the Relay for Life Benefit.
VFW Bingo Action Scheduled Friday
Bingo will be played at the VFW Post Home Friday night, March 7. “Come and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of Bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Hwy. 315, west of Water Valley,” invites Commander Joe Gross. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Easter Star Will Elect Officers At Meeting
Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will hold its next regular scheduled meeting Tuesday, March 11, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. This will be the annual election of officers for the coming year. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. “We encourage all members to attend,” stated Katie Partain, Worthy Matron.
