Sky Will Light Up For Founders Day Celebration

By Jessie Gurner

Look up in the sky!  It’s big, it’s beautiful, it’s the most spectacular fireworks display ever seen in Water Valley!

As part of the Founders Day celebration the Mechanics Bank will sponsor a fireworks show.  Don McKnatt of PyroFire Displays was here over the weekend and met with Cam Tyler of the Mechanics Bank to look at locations and present his company’s plan for the show.

All I can say is Wow! People already in Railroad Park will have a tremendous view of the show, but it’s going to be so big that folks all over town will be able to see it.

Vendors – there is still room if your civic organization, church group, or business is interested in either having a display booth or in selling food.

We will need food vendors throughout the day, lunch through dinner, and would like to offer a variety of choices.

Several people have asked about the photo contest. The categories and rules are in this issue of the paper.

Entry forms for the contest are available from me by email, or they can be picked up at the WVMSA office or at the Herald.

For information about the softball tournament  sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce contact Ron Hart at Mid-Town Auto Parts at 473-4333.

For registration information for the 5K Run or Fun Run sponsored by Renasant Bank contact Bill Taylor at 473-3743 or BTaylor@Renasant.com.

The Herald is also still looking for material for their special Sesquicentennial section.

Take at look through family photos albums and cedar chests and share some of Water Valley’s undiscovered history.

I’d like to take a brief moment from Founders Day activities to mention a Water Valley business that goes out of their way to offer wonderful customer service. Magnolia Home Furnishings. I checked with them on something I needed for the Main Street office.

It wasn’t in stock. When they called back with price and delivery information, they recommended another store where I could find it for less.

Go out of town and see how quickly one of the big chain stores sends you to their competitor.  Magnolia Home Furnishings is a great Main Street neighbor. If you’re in the market for home furnishings go by and take a look at what they have to offer.
