Survey on Deer Baiting Will Be Mailed to Hunting License Holders

JACKSON – The Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is seeking input from Mississippi hunting license holders 16 years of age and older regarding a current deer hunting issue – the hunting of deer with the aid of bait. Those persons who held a valid hunting license during the 2006-07 season will soon be receiving an important survey from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

Please take the time to read the information and respond. Your response to this survey is very important.

“Input from our sporting enthusiasts is of paramount importance in this process,” said Dr. Sam Polles, Executive Director of MDWFP. “Response and participation by the sportsmen and sportswomen of Mississippi is vital to the Commission in its consideration of important conservation issues. I want to thank in advance those hunters who respond to this survey.”

The 2007 legislature instructed the MDWFP Commission to develop regulations regarding the hunting of deer with the aid of bait. The Commission voted unanimously to conduct this survey in order to supplement information collected from all states where deer hunting is allowed to insure that all aspects of the deer feeding issue have been properly addressed. All responses must be received on or before March 28. All surveys are a yellow, folded, single sheet that can be read, marked, refolded, taped closed and mailed.

Original surveys, (not facsimiles) must be returned by mail on or before March 28, 2008.
