Cossar Park Will Hold Easter Activities

  Cossar State Park will hold its annual Easter activities Saturday, March 22. There will be an Easter egg hunt for ages 0 thru 13, beginning at 10 a.m. Other games and activities will be held behind the visitor center following the egg hunt. The Easter Bunny will be present for this event, along with Smokey The Bear and Woodsy The Owl. Friends of Cossar will have a concession stand open.

Diabetic Wellness Team Meeting Set

    The Water Valley Diabetic Wellness Team will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 26, at noon in the Edgar Community Center Building at Rolling Hills. The public is invited to attend.

Get Your Purple Bow And Show Your Support For Life

    The Red Hat Melons are once again selling purple bows. The purple bows are to show your support for the upcoming Relay for Life Event, which will be held April 25, in the Crawford Sports Complex. Purple Bows can be purchased from any member of the Red Hat Melons, or by calling Jonnie Mayo at (662) 473-1897. “Get your purple bow today,” urges Mrs. Mayo.

Baseball Camp Scheduled For Saturday

 A baseball camp will be held Saturday, March 22, from 8 a.m. – noon at the high school baseball field, located behind Water Valley high school. Registration is $25 per player and the camp is for ages 6 and up. Clinic instructors will be Coach Doug Robbins and Coach David Webb. This camp is being sponsored by the Blue Devil Diamond Club.

Join The Bingo Fun At The VFW This Friday Night

  Bingo will be played Friday night, March 21, in VFW 4100’s Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. “Come and join Post 4100 members for a fun filled night of Bingo,” stated Commander Joe Gross. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games starts at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Danny Sexton’s Band To Play At VFW This Saturday Night

    “It’s party time at VFW Post 4100, Water Valley,” says Commander Joe Gross. A live band is featured at these dances every Saturday night and on March 22, featured will be Danny Sexton’s Band. Music begins at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to country music at the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” concluded Commander Gross.

Veterans Schedule Monthly Meeting

  Veterans of Foreign Wars and VFW Ladies Auxiliary will have their monthly meeting Thursday, March 20, beginning at 7 p.m. “All members are urged to attend, as your presence is needed. We are also seeking new members,” stated Commander Joe Gross.

Food Safety Certification Class

A ServSafe Food Certification Class will be taught on May 6th, 8th, and 9th from 9 am – 5 pm at the Oktibbeha County Extension Service.  Cost of the course is $125.  The deadline to register is April 21, 2008, and the class is limited to 25 people.  Call the Yalobusha County Extension Service at (662) 675-2730 for additional details and to register.  When calling to sign up, please inform the office of any disabilities that might interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program.  The MSU Extension Service provides educational opportunities to the public on an equal opportunity basis and will make every reasonable effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Tummy Safe Class And Exam Scheduled For April 29

Tummy Safe is a food certification course for childcare providers.  Tummy Safe offers 6 contact hours for child care providers who complete the course, and offers certification status for those that take and pass the certification exam.  This course is in compliance with Mississippi law, which requires that at least one person in every licensed day care center be certified in food safety.  Tummy Safe was written specifically for the Day Care Industry and replaces the previous ServeSafe® course for childcare providers only.

Pamela Redwine, Nutrition and Food Safety Area Agent for the Mississippi State University Extension Service, announces a Tummy Safe Certification Class and Exam for daycare workers being offered on Tuesday, April 29, at the Chickasaw County Extension Service in Houston.  The class will begin at 9 a.m. and the cost to take the exam is $100, which can be paid by money order or cashier’s check.  The exam will begin at 3:30 p.m.

If you would rather not attend the class, but still would like to take the exam, you will need to work through the Tummy Safe CD before the exam.  The cost of the CD is $25. Space is limited and you must register and pay your fees by April 17, to be considered registered for the class.  Registration fees are non-refundable.  If you have any questions or would like to find out how to purchase your copy of the Tummy Safe CD, contact Pamela Redwine at (662) 675-2730 or your local MSU- Extension Service.  

Join To Over 40 Basketball Tourney And Help “Shoot For A Cure”

  Relay for Life’s Prayer Warriors Team is “Shooting for a Cure”.

  If you are 40 years of age, or above, Prayer Warriors and the Water Valley High School Basketball Team are looking for you.

  The Prayer Warriors (Relay For Life) and the Water Valley High School Basketball Team will host a  40 years of age, or older, basketball tournament.   These games will be played in the Water Valley High School Gymnasium April 5, beginning at 2 p.m. Admission at the door will be $3.

  If you can’t participate but would like to make a donation see any of the Prayer Warrior Team Members. All proceeds will go to Relay For Life. Prayer Warriors Team Captain is Ora L. Phillips.

Rummage Sale Set For April 19 To Raise Money For Mission Trip

    A rummage sale will be held in the Community Room at Mechanics Bank April 19, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Items for sale will include: Home Interiors Products; Other Home Decor; Clothes; Toys; Miscellaneous Items.  Proceeds from this rummage sale will help fund a mission trip to Nicaragua.
