After Lull, Softball Action Resumes

After an Easter lull in Blue Devil girls fastpitch softball action, the squad took the field Tuesday afternoon at presstime in a home game against Oxford. The girls had not played since Monday, March 17, against Bruce.

“We have got a busy week,” Head Coach Shane Brown said about the week. Following the Oxford game, the Lady Blue Devils will host Hamilton on Thursday and Charleston in a doublehead this weekend.

Although the team has only picked up a sole win this season, Brown, now in his second year as head coach, remains upbeat about the remaining five weeks of regular season play.

“We have been experiencing growing pains,” Brown said of his young teams’ performance.

“We can win all three (remaining division games) and make the playoffs,” Brown said.

Last year Brown led the softball team to a 13-7 record and their first competition in the playoffs.

The Future

Next season the girls’ team will have their own field as work is underway to complete a field on the high school campus. Brown said work is underway this week to complete drainage at the field.

The team also fields one senior, which could mean that all of the girls will return except one to compete on their new home field.
