Atomic Dogs Begin 28th Season
By Coach Freddie Folson
With the ‘08 Season, the Water Valley Atomic Dogs Softball Team begins its 28th straight season under the coaching of Freddie Folson. I found players to play softball, organized the team, and named it for the popular song that was number one on the radio at that time, “Atomic Dogs”. Lots of teams have come and gone during the years. Most went out after a few years—Coffeevile Stars after five years, Grenada Pros after ten years, Holcomb after five years, Batesville Untouchables after fifteen years, Charleston and Charleston Car Wash after about fifteen years.
The Atomic Dogs, however, are still going strong. This year we will have a lot of new players. However, we won the season openers last Sunday, playing on the Water Valley Field, and beating Carrollton by eight in the first game and by five in the second.
The Dogs will play Abbeville this Sunday, April 13, beginning at 3 p.m.
