Oxford Hospice Company Offers Grief Support Group Meetings

    The Grief Support Group, sponsored by North Mississippi Hospice of Oxford, will offer group meetings in Oxford on April 23, at Azalea Gardens, in the upstairs sunroom from noon until 1 p.m. The special guest speaker will be Randy Crumbley. Lunch will be provided. Mason Chapters Announce Meeting Date

    McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle on Thursday, April 10. Members are advised that the meeting time has been changed back to 7:30 because of Daylight Savings Time. All members of these two Masonic Bodies are encouraged to attend.

VFW Will Have Friday Bingo Action

    Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100 Friday night, April 11. “Come out and join VFW members for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” invites Commander Joe Gross. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games will be start at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Sexton Will Perform At VFW Friday Night Dance

    “It’s party time at VFW Post 4100, Water Valley,” says Commander Joe Gross. A live band is featured each Saturday and on April 12, the featured band will be Danny Sexton’s band. Music begins at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to country music at the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” concludes Commander Gross.

Extension Program Will Focus On Trends Of Forest Prices

There will be a Yalobusha County Forestry Meeting on April 14, at 7 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Dr. James Henderson, the new MSU-ES Forest Economist, will conduct the program.  This program will deal with forest prices – current trends and predictions.  If you have timber, this is an important meeting for you to attend.  Please call the Extension office at 675-2730 by April 10 to make reservations.

Horse Show Planned For April 12

    On April 12 there will be a Tri Lakes Western Horse Show at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Judged events will start at 3 p.m. and the speed events will begin no earlier than 7:30 p.m.  Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to come see some of the finest horses in the state.

Homemakers Will Sponsor Iris Show

 Have you ever been to or participated in an Iris show?  Brother Truman Scarborough will conduct a program for the Yalobusha County Homemaker’s Council on how to groom and present your Iris for show.  Next there will be an Iris show open to anyone that would like to show their Iris on April 26.  Even if you do not plan to show, the program on April 15th will be of interest to all flower lovers.  Both programs are free and open to the public.

AARP Class Offered April 16 And 17

Would you like to save money on your Auto Insurance?  The AARP Driver Safety Program is an eight-hour classroom driver refresher course for drivers aged 50 and older.  There is a class scheduled at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building on April 16 and 17 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The course will explain how the aging process affects your driving and provides tips on handling these changes.  It also serves as a refresher for general driving rules and conditions and provides an update on driving laws.  Participants age 55 and older with a clean driving record will get an insurance premium discount.

There is a minimal fee of $10 for materials.  Non-AARP members are welcome to attend.  Please call 675-2730 to register or be there before start time on class day.

Historical Society Makes History With First Meeting In New Quarters

The Yalobusha County Historical Society, Inc., will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. This is the first meeting to be held in its new quarters, and the public in invited to attend. A special invitation is given to former members and their families. Historian Chris Morgan will speak on Gen. John Coffee, for whom Coffeeville was named.

Yalobusha Retirees Will Gather April 24

  The Yalobusha County Retired Educational Personnel Association will hold its quarterly meeting Thursday, April 24, beginning at 10 a.m., in the Mechanics Bank Community Room at Water Valley.

    “We gladly welcome new members. All members are urged to be present, as we need your support, input, and attendance,” stated Mrs. Mamie H. Shields, president, and Dorothy A. Kee, secretary.

Sisters Inspiring Sisters Invite Public To Woman’s Ministry

    Sisters Inspiring Sisters would like to invite all women age 18 and older to their SIS Ministry on April 12, beginning at 5 p.m. at Tiny Care Daycare Center. They will be discussing Women of the Bible and praying effectively for the lost. Also scheduled is a family workshop, conducted by Alicia Dukes of Family Crisis Services of Northwest Mississippi. Sis. Clide Lane will be giving a powerful praise report and they will be giving away several books as well.

  If you need a babysitter, one will be available, food will be provided, and if you need a ride, one will be available with a three day advance notice. They’re looking forward to seeing you there.

Rummage Sale Will Benefit Nicaraguan Mission Trip

    A rummage sale will be held at 609 Blackmur Drive April 19, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Items for sale will include: home interiors products; other home decor; clothes; toys; miscellaneous items. Proceeds from this rummage sale will help fund a mission trip to Nicaragua.

Pine Grove West Church Will Celebrate Anniversary Of Pastor

    Pine Grove West Church will have their Pastor and Wife Anniversary Program Sunday, April 13, beginning at 2:30 p.m. This will honor their pastor, Rev. Cleveland Alexander, and his wife, Hazel. Everyone is invited to attend.

Donations Solicited For Camp Ground Cemetery Fund

    Donations are being sought for the Camp Ground Cemetery fund. Anyone who would like to contribute to the upkeep of this cemetery can make checks payable to the Camp Ground Cemetery Fund and mail them to Mechanics Bank, P. O. Box 707, Water Valley, MS 38965.

Jeff Davis Water Association Releases Finances To Public

    The financial report of the Jess Davis Rural Water Association has been completed by a certified public accountant. A copy of same may be obtained, upon written request, from the secretary at 6113 CR 436, Water Valley, MS 38965. A copy may be viewed at the Blackmur Memorial Library, 608, Blackmur Dr., Water Valley.
