VFW Hosts Memorial Day Ceremony
VFW POST 4100 will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at the monument in the park at Water Valley on May 26 at 11 a.m. “Every one is invited to attend,” stated Commander Joe C. Gross.
Springhill Begins Summer Enrollment
Springhill North Child Care is now enrolling children, ages six-weeks-old to 12 years, for the summer program. Call 473-2400, Monday-Friday, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Baseball Camp Scheduled In Late May
The Water Valley Baseball Camp will be held Wednesday, May 28, through Friday, May 30, in the Crawford Sports Complex, between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. This camp is for children, ages 6-13, and the cost will be $50 per child.
Each participant will receive a camp t-Shirt and a snack will be provided each day. Instructors for the Baseball Camp will be Coach Doug Robbins and Assistant Coach David Webb.

Horse Art Class Offered May 28
On Wednesday, May 28th, local artist, Pat Rodrigue, will teach a beginners’ art class on drawing horses. This class will be divided into two age categories: ages 6 – 10 will be from 2 – 3 p.m. and ages 11 – 18 will be from 4 to 5 p.m. If you have any children who are interested in general art or horses, please let them attend this art class, which is free and open to the public.
Private Applicator’s Training Will Be June 2
There will be a private applicator’s training on June 2, at 6:30 pm. If you plan to buy restricted chemicals, you have to have a private applicator’s license. If you need a private application license or if yours has expired, you will need to attend this training. There is a $10 charge to attend. MSU – Extension Service to Host Quick Bites Program
On Thursday, May 29, there will be a Quick Bites program entitled “Pest Management in Vegetable Gardens.” Insect pests can take a bite out of homegrown vegetables before you get a chance to. This session focuses on some of the most damaging pests and gives recommendations on how to manage and control them. This program is free and open to the public, so please bring a sack lunch for a fun and informative program. The event will be held at the Multi-purpose building in Coffeeville, and is sponsored by the Mississippi State Extension Service Office.
Football Camp Scheduled In June
The Water Valley football camp will be held June 23, 24 and 25, from 8 a.m. until noon each day.
This camp will cost $40 for each participant in fifth and sixth grades. The camp is free to seventh graders because they will be playing for the school during the upcoming season.
Dateline for registration is May 30. Turn in your registration form to: Coach Brown or Mrs. Gilley at the elementary school.
Every athlete will receive lunch each day at the elementary school. They will also receive a camp t-shirt. Drop-off will be at the high school football field all three mornings at 8 a.m. and pick-up will be at the elementary school at noon.
Danny Sexton Band Will Perform At VFW Dance Saturday Night
The featured band for the regular Saturday night VFW dance on May 24 will be the Danny Sexton Band. The dance is held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Masonic Meeting Will Be May 22
St. Cyr Commandery No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, May 22, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “Please support your Commandery by making a special effort to attend. We need your help and support,” stated Jim Ward, Commander.
Pitcock-McCullar Reunion Scheduled
The Pitcock and McCullar family reunion will be held Sunday, May 25, from 10 a.m.-until? This event will be held at the Riverview Picnic Area, located below the levy, on Enid Lake. Those attending are asked to bring food to share at a picnic lunch.
Rummage Sale to Benefit Mission Trip To Be Held This Saturday
A rummage sale will be held Saturday, May 24, in front of the Mechanics Bank Community Room. Raffle tickets will be sold for a home interior picture. Proceeds from this event will go to benefit the upcoming mission trip to Nicaragua.
VFW Bingo Scheduled Friday Night
Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, Friday night, May 23, beginning at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years old to play.
Bayson Will Have Homecoming Sunday
Bayson Chapel M.B. Church, located at 1272 CR 431, Water Valley, will have their memorial/homecoming services Sunday, May 25. The memorial program will be included in the regular morning service. Reverend Amos Sims, pastor, will be bringing the Bread of Life for the morning service. Homecoming service will begin at 2:30 p.m. The musical segment of this program will be presented by the Bayson Chapel mass choir and the afternoon speaker will be Reverend Larry Hervey. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. “Everyone is cordially invited to attend these services. Please come out and join us in lifting the name of Jesus,” says Pastor Sims.
