Extension Services Offers Pine Thinning Forestry Program
On Tuesday, June 17, a forestry meeting entitled “Pine Plantation Thinning Cost Share” will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. This is a special program conducted by Dr. Andy Londo, MSU-ES Forestry Department Head of North Mississippi. This is an excellent program for all forest landowners. Yalobusha County Historical Society Announces Thursday Meeting
The Yalobusha County Historical Society, Inc., will meet at 2 p. m. Thursday, June 19, in the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The speaker will be Keith Bloodworth, of The Edward Jones Firm in Grenada. His subject will be “The History of Wall Street.” The public is invited to all Society meetings.
Public Invited To Saturday Horse Show
Anyone meaning to attend a horse show this year and hasn’t had a chance, this Saturday, June 14, will provide another opportunity. Planned are three horse shows in one day at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. The Mississippi Youth Champion Horse Show will begin at 10:30 a.m. The best youth riders from our 4-H club and the surrounding counties will compete in this warm-up show before the district 4-H. A judged Tri Lakes Western Horse Show will follow at 3 p.m. and the timed-event show will start no earlier than 8 p.m. There is no admission charge.
Homemakers Offer Interior Design
The Yalobusha County Homemakers’ Council is hosting a Home Interior Design Program at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 17, at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. Ellen Shaw of Bruce will conduct the program, which is open to the public.
Wizard Of Oz Opens June 26
The Panola Playhouse on Main Street of Sardis will put on four performances of the musical, “The Wizard of Oz,” from June 26 though June 29. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 26, 27, and 28. The matinee performance will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29. This musical is rated “G,” and the actors range in age from 7 through adult.
Tom Latham of Water Valley directs a large cast from Batesville, Oxford, Enid, Pope, Courtland, Oakland, and many other area towns. Jordan Raney of Cascilla stars in the role of Dorothy, and Lee Dixon of Sardis plays the Wizard. Admission is free to Playhouse members. Tickets for non-members range from $5 to $10. Report Cards are still available for pick up at Water Valley High School on Monday through Thursday from 8:30-11 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. each day.
VFW Announces Monthly Meeting
Water Valley VFW Post 4100 holds their regular monthly meetings each third Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. This month’s meeting will be June 19 in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.
Class of ‘68 Plans Reunion
There will be a reunion planning meeting for members of the Water Valley High School Class of 1968 on Friday, June 13, beginning at 7 p.m., at the home of Patsy Humphreys. Refreshments will be served. “We need your input, so please try to attend,” urged Patsy.
Bingo Action Planned Friday Night
Bingo will be played Friday night, June 13, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Home of VFW Post 4100, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Moose Club To Organize At Old Ragsdale Stand
The Loyal Order of Moose will hold an organizational meeting, July 5, at the old Ragsdale Stand. Interested parties are ask to be on hand for the meeting.
Danny Sexton Scheduled At Saturday VFW Dance
Live music is featured each Saturday night at the VFW dance. On June 14, the Danny Sexton Band will be playing from 8 p.m. until midnight in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. A concession stand will be available.
Pine Flat Church Plans Homecoming
A singing and homecoming will be held at Pine Flat First United Methodist Church Sunday, June 15. The church is located off Highway 7 in Lafayette County. “Please bring a lunch if you can. See you there,” says Ruby Taylor.
Sisters Inspiring Sisters to Meet
Sisters Inspiring Sisters would like to invite all women age 18 and up to their SIS Ministry on June 14, beginning at 5 p.m. This will be held at their new location, Mt. Grove M.B. Church’s Fellowship Hall, Coffeeville.
Sis. Cheryl Spearman will be speaking on Women of the Bible and Nurse Donna Hill will be speaking on Healthy Living. They will be giving away several books and door prizes will also be given.
A babysitter and refreshments will be provided. Also, if you need a ride, one will be provided with three days advance notice.

Mason Meeting Scheduled Thursday

Yalobusha County Democratic Committee To Hold Special Meeting
The Yalobusha County Democratic Executive Committee is inviting the public to attend a special meeting on Saturday morning, June 14, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Coffeeville Courthouse.
The purpose of the meeting is to finish electing committee members to serve on the Yalobusha County Democratic Executive Committee. In addition, an update on the State Democratic Executive Committee will be received.
