Color Guard Announces July 3 Bake Sale

    The Water Valley High School Color Guard will have a Bake Sale Thursday, July 3, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until sold out. The bake sale will be in front of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly and the proceeds will be used to help buy new uniforms. The Color Guard invites everyone to come by and purchase goodies for 4th of July events.

Catch The Reading Bug At Blackmur Memorial Library

    Youngsters are invited to Catch The Reading Bug at Blackmur Memorial Library. Registration has begun at the Library for the Summer Reading Program. Anissa Wilkinson (owner of Imagination Station) is the event coordinator for the program.

    The Library Staff is seeking volunteers to assist in this year’s program. Ages 13 to adult can sign up to volunteer. The summer reading program will begin July 12 from 10-11 a.m. Additional days will be: July 17, 4-5 p.m.; July 24, 4-5 p.m.; and July 26, 10-11 a.m. The Awards Program will be held July 31 from 4-5 p.m.

  The library staff is looking forward to all children and young adults coming out to enjoy this year’s reading program. Registration forms are available at the library. All children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult during program times. Registration deadline is July 5. For more information, please contact the library at 473-2444.

 

Stewart Reunion Set For July 5 At The Masonic Temple

    The 29th annual Stewart reunion will be held Saturday, July 5, in the Masonic Temple at 122 Champion Circle, just off Highway 7 south, Water Valley. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Those attending are asked to bring a “pot luck” dish to share at noon. If you have questions, contact Patricia at 473-4788. “We hope to see you there,” she concludes.

RoadHouse Band Will Entertain At Saturday Night VFW Dance

    Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will hold its next regular scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. “The Chapter may have an initiation and all members are urged to attend,” stated Marjorie Clay, Worthy Matron.

Valley City Lodge Will Have Thursday Meeting

    Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will hold its next regular stated Communication at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “We urge you to support your local lodge,” stated J. W. Tuggle, WM.    

Red Cross Service Center Will Have An Annual Meeting July 17

    The North Central Mississippi Service Center of the American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting at 4:30 on Thursday, July 17, at the Red Cross office located at 106 Skyline Drive in Oxford (behind Stout’s Carpet off Highway 30).  New directors and officers will be nominated and elected to serve in the coming year.  Financial and service reports will also be presented as well as Outstanding Volunteer Awards.  After the meeting light refreshments will be served.  The public is invited.     The North Central Mississippi unit of the American Red Cross covers a six county area including Lafayette, Grenada, Calhoun, Yalobusha, Tate, and Marshall Counties.

    The American Red Cross is a Humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

City, County Offices Are Closed Friday

    All City of Water Valley offices and departments will be closed Friday, July 4, for a state holiday. Only commercial garbage routes will be run. County offices will also be closed.

Bingo Canceled During Holiday Friday

    Bingo will not be played at the VFW Post Home on Friday, July 4th.

RoadHouse Band Will Entertain At Saturday Night VFW Dance

    The regular VFW Saturday night dance will be held July 5, from 8 until 12 p.m. The featured band will be RoadHouse, a hot new country band. The dance will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.  Concessions will be available. For more information call (662) 473-4456.

Sign Language Workshop Will Be Held Next Two Mondays

    An American Sign Language Workshop for children will be held  July 7, and July 14, from 10-11 a.m. each day. There is a fee for registration and materials. The location for the workshop will be announced. For additional information contact Vera Edwards, (662) 202-2439.

Cheerleaders Offer Ads For 2008 Football Programs
