Johnson Fish Fry Benefit To Be Held

  A benefit fish fry for Trent Johnson will be held Saturday, August 16, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the home of Levonia Johnson Hoskins and Roland Hoskins, located at 331 Suggs Street in Water Valley. Donations  suggested are $10 per plate and your help will be greatly appreciated.

SU-ES Yalobusha County to Hold Interactive Video Childcare Trainings

The Yalobusha County Extension Service will open its site for the next Childcare Distance Trainings.  The first one will be held on Tuesday, August 19, from 6:15 pm until 8:15 pm.  The topic of this training is “The Learning Environment – Toddlers and Two’s.”  The next session will be held Tuesday, August 26, from 6:15 pm until 8:15 pm.  The topic of this training is “The Learning Environment – Preschoolers”.  These trainings are free services and will each provide two contact hours for childcare providers.  Please contact our office at 675-2730 if you plan to attend.

 Master Tree Farmer Program Will Be Broadcast To Coffeeville  

There will be a Master Tree Farmer Special Series, “Forest Risk and Risk Management”, held three consecutive weeks on Tuesday evenings, September 9 – 23, from 5:30 – 9 p.m.  Each session will be broadcast to the Yalobusha County Extension Office, located18025 Hwy 7, Coffeeville.

The registration fee is $80 for an individual or $130 for couples.  Registration includes a course notebook, lecture notes, CD, and a course certificate.  Also, a meal and refreshments will be provided each evening. Couples will share reference materials.  

    The deadline for registration is August 29. This is to order course materials for participants.  Late registrants will not receive course materials on time!

Kay Cobb Will Speak At Historical Society Meeting

The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 21, in the society headquarters, the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The program, “The Mississippi State Supreme Court” will be given by a former Justice of that court, Kay Cobb, of Oxford. The public is invited to all meetings of the Society. Drummer Boy Productions Will Have Live Recording September 6

  Robert Walker, Jr. and Drummer Boy Productions will present Kelvin S. Willingham and Favored, a live recording, Saturday, September 6, beginning at 6 p.m. in the House of Prayer.

VFW Will Host Friday Bingo

  Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley Friday night, August 15. Play begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years old to play.

Roadhouse Will Entertain At VFW

  The regular VFW Saturday Night Dance will feature “RoadHouse” a hot new country band on August 16. Dancing will be from 8 p.m. until midnight in VFW 4100’s Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Concessions will be available. For more information call (662) 473-4456.

MSU Hosts High School Band Day

  Mississippi State University once again is giving 250 high school musicians across Mississippi an opportunity to perform with one of the oldest university bands in the Southeast. The Famous Maroon Band will host “High School Band Day” on Sept. 6 during the Bulldog’s home football game against Southeastern Louisiana.

Masons Schedule Thursday Meeting

    McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold its regular scheduled meetings at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle Thursday, August 14. All members of these two Masonic bodies are encouraged to attend. “We need your help and support during this Masonic Year,” stated Edward Huckaby, H.P. and Clyde Herron, Ill. M.

Habitat Reorganization Continues

    Hugh Easky of Jackson, Vice President for Development from the Mississippi Home Corp., will speak at the Fuller Center for Housing Meeting Thursday evening, August 14, beginning at 7:00 at Mechanics Bank.

    “We invite interested persons to attend our reorganization of Yalobusha Habitat for Humanity,” stated Lucia Holloway.

Landowners Host Forestry Seminar

    The Yalobusha County Forest Landowners Association will host a forestry seminar on August 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Matthew Raff with The Land Bank of North Mississippi will present an overview of land values in Yalobusha County including the appraisal and financing of land.  You are asked to call the Yalobusha County Extension office at 675-2730 by 5 p.m. on August 18 to register for this seminar.  The program is free and open to the public.

Homemakers Sponsor Fashion Roundup

    The Yalobusha County Homemakers will sponsor a Fall Fashion Roundup on August 19.  Stienmart fashion consultant, Ti Nolan, will be on hand to teach you what’s hot and what’s not for fall fashion.  Participants will learn which 10 fall fashion classics you need to own, and how to update your wardrobe with the right punch of vivid, bright, and bold color!  

    Learn the latest trends in jewelry, handbags, shoes, and other accessories.  Join us for a fun time on Tuesday, August 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building, Hwy 7, Coffeeville.

Pine Valley Fire Department Announces Monthly Meeting

  The Pine Valley Volunteer Fire Department will have their monthly meeting Saturday, August 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. “All members and anyone wanting to help with our Haunted Hollow is urged to attend,” states Fire Chief Ricky Wood.

Vendors Needed For Holiday Bazaar

    The Yalobusha County Homemakers will sponsor a Holiday Bazaar on November 1 at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building in Coffeeville.  Spaces for rent are 10×10 and cost $15 per booth space.  Electricity is available for an additional $10.  For additional information, please contact Patsy Stewart at (662) 609-9695.  

School Annuals Have Arrived

The 2007-08 annuals have arrived.  If you pre-purchased an annual it can be picked up from Joanne King at the WVHS between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A limited supply of annuals are available for anyone who did not pre-purchase for $50.

Pine Valley Reunion Will Be September 20

    The Annual Pine Valley School reunion will be held the third Saturday in September, September 20. All former students, teachers, family and friends are invited to attend. Mark your calendars for this event. Lunch will be served at noon, and those attending are ask to bring a dish for sharing at this meal.
