Kay Cobb Will Speak At Historical Society Meeting

The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 21, in the society headquarters, the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The program, “The Mississippi State Supreme Court” will be given by a former Justice of that court, Kay Cobb, of Oxford. The public is invited to all meetings of the Society. Drummer Boy Productions Will Have Live Recording September 6

  Robert Walker, Jr. and Drummer Boy Productions will present Kelvin S. Willingham and Favored, a live recording, Saturday, September 6, beginning at 6 p.m. in the House of Prayer.

Landowners To Host Forestry Seminar Today, Aug. 21

    The Yalobusha County Forest Landowners Association will host a forestry seminar on August 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Matthew Raff with The Land Bank of North Mississippi will present an overview of land values in Yalobusha County including the appraisal and financing of land.  You are asked to call the Yalobusha County Extension office at 675-2730 by 5 p.m. on August 18 to register for this seminar.  The program is free and open to the public.

Pine Valley Fire Department Announces Monthly Meeting

  The Pine Valley Volunteer Fire Department will have their monthly meeting Saturday, August 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. “All members and anyone wanting to help with our Haunted Hollow is urged to attend,” states Fire Chief Ricky Wood.

Vendors Needed For Holiday Bazaar

    The Yalobusha County Homemakers will sponsor a Holiday Bazaar on November 1 at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building in Coffeeville.  Spaces for rent are 10×10 and cost $15 per booth space.  Electricity is available for an additional $10.  For additional information, please contact Patsy Stewart at (662) 609-9695.  

Pine Valley Reunion Scheduled For September 20

    The Annual Pine Valley School reunion will be held the third Saturday in September, September 20. All former students, teachers, family and friends are invited to attend. Mark your calendars for this event. Lunch will be served at noon, and those attending are asked to bring a dish for sharing at this meal.

VFW Schedules Aug. 21 Meeting

  VFW Post 4100 meets every Third Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. This month’s meeting will be held August 21, in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. “All members are urged to attend,” states Commander Joe Gross.

VFW Bingo Plans Friday Bingo

  Bingo will be played in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, Friday, August 22, beginning at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years old to play. A concession stand will be available.

Danny Saxton Band Will Perform At VFW Dance On Saturday Night

  The regular VFW Saturday Night Dance will be held August 23, from 8 p.m. until 12 Midnight. The dance, which will feature the Danny Saxton Band, will be held in Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. A  concession stand will be available.

Soccer Registration Is Aug. 23 And 30

  Soccer Registration will be held in the Crawford Sports Complex on Saturday, August 23 and August 30, from 9 a.m. until noon. Registration cost will be: $45 for first child; $40 for second child; and $35 for third child. (Prices are for siblings.) Pink Ladies Fund Raiser Is Sept. 13

  Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will have a Fund Raiser September 13, from 2-4 p.m. at First Christian Church, Admission is free. Rada Products will be featured and there will be samples of the products to taste. All proceeds will go to help the hospital and nursing home.

Cornerstone Holds Benefit For Danny Thompson

  A benefit for Danny Thompson will be held at Cornerstone Full Gospel Church Saturday, August 30. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. The meal will include spaghetti, green beans, slaw, dessert, and tea for $6 a plate for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. There will also be a raffle for a queen size quilt, donated by Pansy Saxton of Quilts and Things. Tickets are $1 each and the drawing will be at Cornerstone August 30 at 7 p.m. The quilt is on display at Turnage Drug Store. Following dinner, there will be singing from 7-8 p.m. The church is located at 606 Wise Street. For more information call 473-4117.

Food Safety Certification Class Set

ServSafe Food Certification Class will be taught October 15 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and October 16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.  The certification exam will begin at 3 p.m. on October 16 and will conclude when the exam is completed.  The class will be held at the Oktibbeha County Extension Service.  Cost of the course is $125.  

The deadline to register is September 29, and the class is limited to 25 people.  Call the Oktibbeha County Extension Service at (662) 323-5916 for additional details and to register.  When calling to sign up, please inform the office of any disabilities that might interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program.  The MSU Extension Service provides educational opportunities to the public on an equal opportunity basis and will make every reasonable effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

 

MSU-ES Yalobusha County Will Hold Interactive Video Childcare Training

The Yalobusha County Extension Service will open its site for the next Childcare Distance Training.  It will be held on Tuesday, August 26, from 6:15 until 8:15 pm.  The topic of this training is “The Learning Environment – Preschoolers.”  This training is a free service and will provide two contact hours for childcare providers.  Please contact our office at 675-2730 if you plan to attend.

Master Tree Farmer Program Offered

There will be a Master Tree Farmer Special Series, “Forest Risk and Risk Management”, held three consecutive weeks on Tuesday evenings, September 9th – 23rd, from 5:30 – 9 p.m.  Each session will be broadcast to the Yalobusha County Extension Office, 18025 Hwy 7, Coffeeville, MS.

Registration

The registration fee is $80 for an individual or $130 for couples.  Registration includes a course notebook, lecture notes, CD, and a course certificate.  Also, a meal and refreshments will be provided each evening.  Couples will share reference materials.

The deadline for registration is August 29. This is to order course materials for participants.  Late registrants will not receive course materials on time!

Open Horse Show Scheduled Saturday

 There will be an open horse show this Saturday, August 23, at the Multipurpose Building at 2 p.m.  This is a much needed practice to prepare for the State Open Horse Championships coming up the first week of September.  As usual, these shows are free and open to the public.

Tummy Safe Class And Exam Offered September 30

Tummy Safe is a food certification course for childcare providers.  Tummy Safe offers 6 contact hours for child care providers who complete the course, and offers certification status for those that take and pass the certification exam.  This course is in compliance with Mississippi law, which requires that at least one person in every licensed day care center be certified in food safety.  Tummy Safe was written specifically for the Day Care Industry and replaces the previous ServeSafe® course for childcare providers only.

Pamela Redwine, Nutrition and Food Safety Area Agent for the Mississippi State University Extension Service, announces a Tummy Safe Certification Class and Exam for daycare workers being offered on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at the Yalobusha County Extension Service in Coffeeville.  The class will begin at 9 a.m. and the cost to take the exam is $100, which can be paid by money order or cashiers check.  The exam will begin at 3:00 p.m.

If you would rather not attend the class, but still would like to take the exam, you will need to work through the Tummy Safe CD before the exam.  The cost of the CD is $25. Space is limited and you must register and pay your fees by September 16, 2008 to be considered registered for the class.  Registration fees are non-refundable.  If you have any questions or would like to find out how to purchase your copy of the Tummy Safe CD, contact Pamela Redwine at (662) 675-2730 or your local MSU- Extension Service.

Auditions for Northwest fall production  of ‘Hedda Gabler’ scheduled

Auditions for Northwest Mississippi Community College’s fall  production, “Hedda Gabler” will be held on Aug. 25 and 26 at 6:30  p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus, according to Terry Scott, director of the play.

There are parts available for four females and three males, according  to Scott. “I’m looking for people 18 years and older. Mature people  are especially encouraged to attend.  

Auditionees will read from the script,” Scott said. He added that members of the community are invited to audition.

“Hedda Gabler” is a four-act play by Henrik Ibsen. It was first published in 1890. The play deals with the character of a woman out of  harmony with her surroundings. It is a complete revelation of her past  life, her thoughts, and the resultant acts. Everything in the play  contributes to the psychological portrait of Hedda Gabler.

Performance dates for the play are Thurs.- Sat., Oct. 23 – 25 at 7:30  p.m. and Sun., Oct. 26 at 2:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. For  more information, contact Scott at 662-562-3332 or e-mail tscott@northwestms.edu  

School Annuals Have Arrived

    The 2007-08 Water Valley High School annuals have arrived.  If you pre-purchased an annual, it can be picked up from Joanne King at the high school between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. A limited supply of annuals are available for anyone who did not pre-purchase for $50.

Blood Drive Scheduled In Coffeeville

Heather Allen, Donor Recruitment Assistant for United Blood Services/ Natchez Trace Region in Tupelo announced a blood drive will be held Wednesday, August 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Coffeeville Baptist Church.
