The Blue Devils have found road games a little more to their liking early on in the season as Water Valley is now 2-0 away from home, emerging victorious at Coffeeville and Independence. However, Water Valley will need to improve greatly on their only previous home performance against Senatobia, as the Warriors beat the Blue Devils 42-0 last season. Senatobia comes into this matchup winless, as the Warriors have succumb to defeat to Corinth, Itawamba AHS, and Oxford this season.
Offensively, Water Valley will look for D.C. Logan, Eric Buckley, and Torrey Horton to continue their strong ground attack, and the improving Daniels to contribute through the air. Senatobia’s defense is surrendering an average of 31.3 points per game in their first three games of the season.
For Defensive Coach Richard Russo and staff, Senatobia presents a simple, yet well run offensive scheme.
“I’ve never seen a team in my years of coaching only run two formations, but that’s all they’ve shown in the games that we’ve scouted,” said Russo. “They don’t run a lot of things, but they execute well.”
The Blue Devils will continue to look for improvement in the secondary, while the defensive line, led by Coach Bryant Mix will look to repeat their strong effort against Independence, in which Water Valley only yielded 246 yards.
“J.J. Woodard and Marrico Hayes are really improving from week to week, and when those two play well, the whole defense plays well,” said Mix. “J.J. Woodard, Marrico Hayes, Barrett Larson, and Zack Caulder are giving me one heck of an effort, and I’m proud of them.”
