Football Booster Club Invites Former Coaches, Players For 50-Year Stadium Anniversary

The Blue Devil Booster Club invites all coaches and players  from 1958 to present to celebrate 50 years of football at Municipal Stadium / Bobby Clark Field on October 24th .  Activities will take place during half-time of the J.Z. George game.  The stadium opened in the fall of 1958 and has been home to the Blue Devils for five decades.

 
Annual Walker Cemetery Cleaning Scheduled For October 4

 The annual Walker Cemetery cleaning will be held Saturday, October 4. All family and friends are invited to come early with tools for cleaning, and your favorite covered dish to share during the lunch fellowship. Prayers are for everyone  to have a safe trip. Bingo Action Offered At The VFW

  Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, Friday night, September 26, beginning at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Sexton Band Will Perform At VFW

  The regular VFW Saturday Night Dance will feature the Danny Sexton Band on September 26. Dancing will be from 8 until 12 p.m. The dance will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315 west of Water Valley. Concessions will be available.

Miles WMS Rummage Sale

  The Women’s Missionary Society of Miles Church will sponsor a rummage sale and will sell fish and pulled pork plates on Friday October 3. Plates cost $6 each. The rummage sale will start at 8 a.m. Plate lunches will be ready for delivery, or pick-up, between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., at the Miles Memorial Church Fellowship Hall.

Chamber Announces Fall Lineup For Music In The Park

    The Water Valley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2008 Music in the Park fall lineup. This anticipated event kicks off October 11, with the performance of Sharecroppers. The following Saturday, October 18, Hoodoo Engineers is scheduled, and on October 25, Mid Life Crisis will take the stage. All performances begin at 7 p.m.

Davidson Parent Support Group Schedules Meeting Next Thursday

The Parent Support Group will meet at Davidson Elementary School on Thursday, October 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.  All parents and interested citizens are invited to attend.

Yalobusha Democratic Committee Will Have Voter Registration Drive

    A Politicians Campaigning and Voters’ Registration Drive will be held at Dunn’s Family Restaurant, 1119 N. Main St., beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, September 27. Several political candidates will be on hand to discuss issues that may be important to the voters.     

    “Please be present to address your concerns to these candidates,” invites Butler McLeod, Chairman, Yalobusha County Democratic Executive Committee. A voter’s registration drive will be going on at the same time to register non-registered voters. “If you know of anyone who has not registered, please encourage them to come to Dunn’s Family Restaurant on Saturday morning. It only takes a m-i-n-u-t-e to register!,” concluded McLeod. This event is open to the public and everyone—Coffeeville, Enid, Oakland, Scobey, Sylva Rena, and Tillatoba—is invited.

Rainbow Kiddie World Offers Special Saturday Daycare

  “Ever wish you had a day, without the kids, to clean the house, to do the laundry that has been piling up for days, to go shopping, to have lunch with a friend and actually get to enjoy it, to have a few hours to yourself—whatever the reason or task, that day is here,” stated Kenya Walton of Rainbow Kiddie World. “Why pay a babysitter $10 an hour when you can come to Rainbow Kiddie World, 918 Bowles Street, Water Valley on September 27 or October 11, from 8-5, for $20 per child. ($5 each additional for parents who have multiples.)”

  Children will be given breakfast (optional, if they haven’t had it before leaving home), a snack, lunch, and will be provided with entertainment and activities on these days.

  To save a spot for your children, an R.S.V.P. is needed by September 24 for the 27th, or October 8, for the 11th, to determine how many children will be present on either day.   Proceeds will go toward helping Tia Drane go to Nashville for the Music City Invitational in December.

Accelerated English Class Announces Quarter Clothing Sale

  The Water Valley High School Accelerated English Class III will have a charity clothing sale on Saturday, October 11. The event will be held at the First Christian Church in Water Valley, starting at 9 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m. Each article will be sold for a quarter. All of the money collected will be awarded to a needy family in the community.     “Many thanks to all who donated items to help us with our school project,” states Evonna M. Scott.

Yalobusha Republicans Schedule September Meeting

  Yalobusha Republicans will meet Tuesday, September 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the Mechanics Bank Community Room.

Color Guard Offers Stadium Blankets

 Stadium Blankets are being sold by the Color Guard. They are four by five feet in size, and are gray with a blue logo. Blankets are $25 each and may be ordered by calling the School Library, 473-9340, or Karen Hamilton, 473-4927. “We will also be selling them at the home ballgames. They would make great Christmas presents!,” stated Mrs. Hamilton.

Christmas Parade Date Is December 6

  The Water Valley Christmas Parade date has been set for Saturday, December 6, beginning at one o’clock in the afternoon. A rain date for the parade will be the following Saturday, December 13 (if needed). Everyone is invited to participate in the parade, which is sponsored by the Tri-Lake Fairground Association.   “All churches, organizations or individuals are urged to participate in the annual Christmas Parade, with the theme of ‘Christmas in the Valley’,” stated Parade Chairman Womble.

Mason Conclave Set For Thursday

 St. Cyr Commandery No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, September 25, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “Please support your Commandry by making a special effort to attend. We need your help and support,” stated Jim Ward, Commander.

Extension Service Will Have Childcare Training Sessions

The Yalobusha County Extension Service will open its site for the next “Face-to-Face” Childcare Trainings at the Multipurpose Building located on Highway 7 in Coffeeville.  An instructor will be on site Thursday, September 25, for a training entitled “ELG:  Mathematical Concepts for three and four year-old children.”  This training will be held from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. These trainings are free services and will provide contact hours for childcare providers.  Contact the Extension Office at 675-2730 if you plan to attend.
