Miles WMS Rummage Sale

  The Women’s Missionary Society of Miles Church will sponsor a rummage sale and will sell fish and pulled pork plates on Friday October 3. Plates cost $6 each. The rummage sale will start at 8 a.m. Plate lunches will be ready for delivery, or pick-up, between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., at the Miles Memorial Church Fellowship Hall.

Davidson Parent Support Group Schedules Meeting Next Thursday

The Parent Support Group will meet at Davidson Elementary School on Thursday, October 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.  All parents and interested citizens are invited to attend.

Christmas Parade Date Is December 6

  The Water Valley Christmas Parade date has been set for Saturday, December 6, beginning at one o’clock in the afternoon. A rain date for the parade will be the following Saturday, December 13 (if needed). Everyone is invited to participate in the parade, which is sponsored by the Tri-Lake Fairground Association. Please call J. C. Womble at 473-1742, or Michael Redwine, 473-4254, to enter your unit in the parade line-up. You can email Mr. Womble at clinton@watervalley.net for parade information.

  “All churches, organizations or individuals are urged to participate in the annual Christmas Parade, with the theme of ‘Christmas in the Valley’,” stated Parade Chairman Womble.

AARP Driver Safety Program Offered

    Would you like to save money on your auto insurance?  The AARP driver safety program is an eight hour classroom driver refresher course for drivers aged 50 and older.  There is a class scheduled at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building on October 9 and 10.  The class will meet each day from 8:15 am – 12:15 pm.  Non-AARP members are welcome to attend.  There is a minimal fee of $10 for materials.  The course will explain the changes that occur in the aging process and provide driving tips for handling these changes.  It also serves as a refresher course for general driving rules and conditions and provides an update on driving laws.

    Mississippi law requires all vehicle insurance carriers to offer a discount on premiums to qualified graduates aged 55 and older of approved courses such as the AARP driver safety program.  Contact your insurance carrier for details.  Call the Yalobusha County Extension office at 675-2730 to register, or be there before start time on class day.   

Extension Service to Host Quick Bites Program

On Thursday, October 2, there will be a Quick Bites program at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  The topic of this program is “It’s a Snap: Making Picture Perfect Holiday Cards.”  In this class, you’ll learn tips and tricks to taking great holiday shots of your family.  Once you have the perfect shot, you’ll learn how to upload and use online photo services (like Wal-Mart and Walgreens) to print Christmas cards with your families’ photo so friends and family can see how much everyone has grown in the past year.  This program is free and open to the public, so please bring a sack lunch and join us for a fun and informative program at noon this Thursday.

Yalobusha Extension Service Will Hold Face-to-Face Childcare Trainings

    The Yalobusha County Extension Service will open its site for the following “Face-to-Face” Childcare Trainings at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building located on Highway 7 in Coffeeville.    

    On Saturday, October 4,  Social/Emotional Development for Young Children, Assessments and Observational Strategies  (Part 2).  Bring your own lunch. The class lasts from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.and will be held at the Yalobusha County Extension Office.    

    On Tuesday, October 7, ELG:  Physical Development for three and four year-old children. This class will be held from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.  These trainings are free services and will provide contact hours for childcare providers.  Please contact the Extension office at 675-2730 to register.

VFW Will Have Bingo Action

  Bingo will be played in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley on Friday, October 3, beginning at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Roadhouse Band Will Perform At VFW

  The regular Saturday Night VFW Dance will feature music by the Roadhouse Band on October 4. The dance will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Dancing begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at 12 Midnight. A concession stand will be available.

Lodge Meeting Scheduled Thursday

 Valley City Lodge #402 F&AM will hold its next regular stated Communication at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “We urge you to support you local Lodge,” states J. W. Tuggle, WM.

Lions Will Flip Pancakes Saturday

    The Water Valley Lions Club will host its regular monthly pancake breakfast Saturday morning, October 4, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. You may enjoy all the pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice you care to eat for the price of just $5 per plate. This event is held in the Lions Depot Building on Main Street.

    “Come out and enjoy a delicious meal and some great fellowship, while helping fund the many charitable projects of the Lions Club,” invites Lion Ernie Aune.

Lions Club Will Collect Donations

    The Lions Club of Water Valley will be collecting donations during its annual “White Cane Day” Fund Raiser on Friday, October 3, between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. at the traffic lights of Main Street and Highway 315, and Main Street and the First Baptist Church.  This fund raiser provides vision assistance to over 40 people annually, according to Vicki Beyer, president of the Lion’s Club, who also urges everyone to come to the pancake breakfast Saturday morning.

Deadline Approaching For Voter Registration

    This is the last week to register to vote in the Nov. 4 General Election. Absentee ballots are now available in the Circuit Clerk’s office at the courthouses in Water Valley and Coffeeville.  Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney also urges anyone who has an address change to contact his offices.

Football Booster Club Invites Former Coaches, Players For 50-Year Stadium Anniversary

The Blue Devil Booster Club invites all coaches and players  from 1958 to present to celebrate 50 years of football at Municipal Stadium / Bobby Clark Field on October 24.  Activities will take place during half-time of the J.Z. George game.  The stadium opened in the fall of 1958 and has been home to the Blue Devils for five decades.

Annual Walker Cemetery Cleaning Scheduled For October 4

 The annual Walker Cemetery cleaning will be held Saturday, October 4. All family and friends are invited to come early with tools for cleaning, and your favorite covered dish to share during the lunch fellowship. Prayers are for everyone  to have a safe trip. Color Guard Offers Stadium Blankets

 Stadium Blankets are being sold by the Color Guard. They are four by five feet in size, and are gray with a blue logo. Blankets are $25 each and may be ordered by calling the School Library, 473-9340, or Karen Hamilton, 473-4927. “We will also be selling them at the home ballgames. They would make great Christmas presents!,” stated Mrs. Hamilton.

Tractor Pull Scheduled In Sardis

The 19th Annual Antique Engine & Tractor Show/Tractor Pull in Sardis will be held Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18.
