Fuller Center For Housing Meets October 19

  The Yalobusha County Fuller Center for Housing will meet on Thursday, October 9, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Water Valley First United Methodist Church. Persons interested in the affiliate (formerly Habitat for Humanity) are encouraged to attend.

Accelerated English III Offer Gently Used Clothes In Fundraising Event

  On October 11, Mrs. Koshenina’s Accelerated English III students and Water Valley Junior and Senior School Student Council will host a gently used clothing sale. Each item will cost ONLY 25 cents!!! There are some amazing items, too! The public is welcome. The sale will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. and will be held at First Christian Church in Water Valley. ALL proceeds will benefit families experiencing difficult times during the winter season.

Halloween Carnival Set at Shiloh Baptist Church

  Shiloh Baptist Church at Big Creek will host a community wide Trunk-R-Treat Carnival Wednesday, October 29, beginning at 6 p.m. This halloween carnival is free and has been popular the last few years in providing a safe place for our children to enjoy a night of fun. Infants thru youth are invited to participate in this exciting event. Organizers will provide kid friendly carnival games, food, candy, various booths and the Martin’s Extreme Jumpers. WVHS Announces Career Night

  Water Valley High School will host Career Night Tuesday, October 14, in the high school cafeteria. Seniors and their parents are asked to come between 5 to 6 p.m., with juniors and their parents asked to come between 6 to 7 p.m. This will be an informal session where students and parents can talk to the representatives.

  Career Night is designed to help students make decisions regarding future career choices. Representatives from senior colleges, trade schools, armed services, and various industries, will be on hand to answer questions. Additionally, bank representatives will be present to provide financial information.

Masonic Meeting Planned October 9

  McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM and J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle Thursday, October 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members of these two Masonic Bodies are encouraged to attend. “We need your help and support during this Masonic Year,” stated Edward Huckaby, H.P. and Clyde Herron, ILL. M.

Eastern Star Schedules Tuesday Meeting

  Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will hold its next regular scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 14, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning with a Pot Luck Dinner at 6:30 p.m. “This will be our annual ‘Honor The Masons’ meeting. We encourage all members and Masons to attend,” stated Marjorie Clay, Worthy Matron.

Historical Society Meeting Topic Will Be Nature ‘Double-Header’

    The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p. m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in its headquarters in Coffeeville. There will be a nature-oriented program, a double-header, in a sense. Sam Marter, Biologist with  the Corps of Engineers, will speak on “The Bobwhite Quail.” He will tell of their decline in our region.  Tom Moorman will have a “Harvest Display,” a really remarkable collection of nature’s offerings. Yalobusha Republicans Schedule October Meeting

Yalobusha Republicans will meet Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Mechanics Bank Community Room. For additional information, contact Eddie Ray.

VFW Bingo Action Scheduled Friday

  Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home Friday, October 9, beginning at 7 p.m. The Post Home is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Come Shake A Leg At The VFW

  The regular Saturday Night VFW Dances feature a live band each week. The featured band October 11 will be the Danny Saxton Band. Dancing begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight. The dance is held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. A concession stand will be available.

Diabetes Health Fair Offered In Oakland

    A community Diabetes Health Fair will be held in the Masonic Hall, 171 Cherry Street, Oakland, on October 18, from 10 a.m. until

12:30 p.m. The following tests will be given and free information will be available for the public and for diabetes caregivers: Diabetes Foot Care and Proper Shoes; Blood Pressure Screening; Good Vision and Proper Eye Care and Screening; Wound Care Treatment; Glucose Testing.

  The Ballard Chiropractic Care will be present to create awareness on how to be more responsible for your health. This even is sponsored by the Oakland Diabetes Wellness Team, Mrs. Lizzie Earl, chairperson, William Brown, vice-chairperson, and Mrs. Mamie H. Shields, county coordinator.

Annual Bell Reunion Will Be Held In Masonic Temple

  The annual James D. Bell Family Reunion will be held Sunday, October 19, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, Water Valley. Family members and friends are invited to attend.
