Retired Educators Schedule Quarterly Meeting October 23
The Yalobusha County Retired Educational Personnel Association will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, October 23. The meeting will be held in Water Valley in the Mechanics Bank Community Room at 10 a.m. Important legislation and updates will be discussed.
All members are encouraged to attend as your input and support are valued tremendously. New membership is still solicited.
Historical Society Meeting Topic Will Be Nature ‘Double-Header’
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p. m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in its headquarters in Coffeeville. There will be a nature-oriented program, a double-header, in a sense. Sam Marter, Biologist with the Corps of Engineers, will speak on “The Bobwhite Quail.” He will tell of their decline in our region. Tom Moorman will have a “Harvest Display,” a really remarkable collection of nature’s offerings. Members are urged to bring something to add to the display, also. The public is invited. Diabetes Health Fair Offered In Oakland
A community Diabetes Health Fair will be held in the Masonic Hall, 171 Cherry Street, Oakland, on October 18, from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The following tests will be given and free information will be available for the public and for diabetes caregivers: Diabetes Foot Care and Proper Shoes; Blood Pressure Screening; Good Vision and Proper Eye Care and Screening; Wound Care Treatment; Glucose Testing. The Ballard Chiropractic Care will be present to create awareness on how to be more responsible for your health. This even is sponsored by the Oakland Diabetes Wellness Team, Mrs. Lizzie Earl, chairperson, William Brown, vice-chairperson, and Mrs. Mamie H. Shields, county coordinator.
Diabetic Wellness Team Will Convene
The Coffeeville Area Diabetes Wellness Team will hold its monthly meeting at Spring Hill (South) M. B. Church located on County Road 432 in Coffeeville. The team will meet on Tuesday, October 21 at 4 p.m. Please attend and bring a friend. Important information pertaining to diabetes, diabetic care, and related illnesses will be discussed and provided.
Halloween Carnival Set at Shiloh Baptist Church
Shiloh Baptist Church at Big Creek will host a community wide Trunk-R-Treat Carnival Wednesday, October 29, beginning at 6 p.m. This halloween carnival is free and has been popular the last few years in providing a safe place for our children to enjoy a night of fun. Infants thru youth are invited to participate in this exciting event. Organizers will provide kid friendly carnival games, food, candy, various booths and the Martin’s Extreme Jumpers.
Homemaker Volunteers Announce Plans For Holiday Bazaar
The Yalobusha County chapter of the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers will sponsor a Holiday Bazaar on the first of November at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building on Highway 7 in Coffeeville. The Bazaar will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 3 p.m.
Admission is Free. We will have many vendors offering many different crafts and holiday gifts. Food will be available. Come on out and get your holiday shopping done early. If you are interested in a booth space for the Bazaar, contact Patsy Stewart at patsystewart@hughes.net or phone 662-609-9695.
MSU Horticulturist Will Educate On Establishing Backyard Habitats
Dr. Lelia Kelly, MSU Horticulture Specialist, will conduct a program on “Establishing Backyard Habitats” on Wednesday, October 22, at 10 am, at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. Dr. Kelly’s programs are always very informative as well as entertaining. This program, sponsored by the Yalobusha County Homemakers, is free and open to the public.
Extension Service Continues To Take Orders For Cheese
The October 15th deadline previously set for cheese orders has passed, however the Yalobusha County Extension Service will continue to take orders until they run out at Mississippi State. So, please call the extension office as soon as possible at 675-2730 if you still plan to order cheese before Christmas. Orders will be taken until the cheese is gone.
Open Horse Show Will Be October 25
There will be an open horse show at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building on October 25 at 1:30 pm. While this show is an excellent opportunity for everyone qualified for the State Open Show in November, it is also an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in showing horses. In addition to some of the regular classes, there will be several fun classes including a Halloween costume class. For a class schedule, please call the Yalobusha County Extension office at 675-2730.
Wellness Team Will Have Monthly Meeting On October 22
The Water Valley Wellness Team will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, October, 22, at noon in the Edgar Community Center Building at Rollings Hills. The public is invited to attend.
