ACKERMAN – The Blue Devils will play for playoff seeding and momentum in Friday night’s regular season finale at Ackerman. Much like Water Valley, the Indians (7-2 overall, 3-2 division) have been on the verge of upsets of division frontrunners Bruce and Eupora.
“Ackerman is a very solid football team; they played Bruce within 10 and Eupora within seven and they have two of the best defensive tackles in 2A,” said Richard Russo.
With a victory, Water Valley would clinch the third spot in the division, keeping the Blue Devils out of a first round matchup against region four’s top seed.
“We’re going to drive down there (Ackerman) and play as well as we can play and I feel confident in our guys,” said Coach Brad Embry. “We just have to continue to build on what we’re doing and keep working.”
Ackerman recorded a 28-7 victory over Water Valley in 2007, keeping the Blue Devils out of the playoffs for the first time since 1997.
After clinching their playoff spot Friday night, the Water Valley coaching staff and players are brimming with confidence as the Blue Devils gear up for the playoffs with a trip to Ackerman. Water Valley has only lost once on the road, and they are confident that they can improve on a 3-1 record away from Bobby Clark Field.
“I think we’re a team nobody wants to see,” said Logan.
