Chamber Will Sponsor Christmas Lighting Contest
The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Christmas Lighting Contest again this year. Residential and business entries will compose the categories.
Prizes for the winners will be: first place, $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50. Winners will be selected in each category.
If you would like to participate, come by the Chamber of Commerce Office and sign up, or call 473-1122 to enter.
Judging will be on the weekend of December 13 and 14. Be sure to have your lights on until 9 p.m. on these days.
Lions Schedule Pancake Breakfast
The Water Valley Lions Club will serve their regular first Saturday Pancake Breakfast December 6, between the hours of 6:30 and 9 a.m. The event is held in the Lions Depot Building on Main Street. The menu will include all-you-care-to-eat pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice, and the cost per plate will be $5.
Lion Ernie Aune invites everyone to start parade day with a delicious breakfast and some great fellowship, while helping fund the many charitable projects of the local Lions Club. Lions cheese will also be available at this event.
Masonic Meeting Set For Thursday
Valley City Lodge #402 F&AM will hold its next regular stated Communication at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “We urge you to support your local Lodge,” says J. W. Tuggle, WM.
OES Meets Tuesday, December 9
Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will hold its next regular scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 9, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “This will be our regular Christmas Party, with a pot luck supper beginning at 6:30. All members are reminded to bring a gift for the Nursing Home. We encourage all members to attend,” stated Marjorie Clay, Worthy Matron.
Fuller Center Hosts Meet And Greet Session
Yalobusha Fuller Center for Housing will host a Meet & Greet Session at Mechanics Bank Community Room on Saturday, December 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p. m., prior to the annual Christmas parade.
“Information about our organization as to how we can help homeowners who need small repairs to their homes and cannot afford traditional labor services will be our goal,” said Rev. Kevin Lee, president of the board of directors. “Also, we are interested in locating persons who are interested in volunteering their carpentry skills to help Yalobushians in need.”
Fuller Center for Housing partnerships offer work-force support to help provide adequate shelter for all people and reduce substandard housing in Yalobusha County.
VFW Plans Friday Bingo Action
Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, Friday night, December 5. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Come Shake A Leg At The VFW
The regular VFW Saturday Night Dance will feature “RoadHouse”, a hot new country band on December 6. Dancing begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at Midnight. The Dance is held in the Post Home of VFW Post 4100, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. A concession stand will be available.

Water Valley VFW Post 4100 will hold its Christmas dinner on Sunday, December 7, beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The dinner will be held in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.
Auction, Gospel Singing Will Benefit William Fly
A benefit for William Roy Fly, who has been diagnosed with brain cancer, will be held Saturday, December 13, from 1 p.m.-until, in Goshen Memorial Chapel, located on CR 226, Coffeeville.
Gospel singing will be by “Fishers of Men.” There will be an auction at 2 p.m., with auctioneer Cecil Ingram. Homemade stew, chili and hamburger plates will be served from 1 p.m., eat-in or take-out, for $7 each.

Panola Playhouse Schedules Christmas Performance
The Panola Playhouse proudly presents The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, directed by Chad Martin of Senatobia. The play will run two weekends in December with performances on Dec. 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th at 7:30 p.m., and December 7th and 14th at 2:30 p.m. The show will also include a Christmas Musical Review afterward, featuring vocal and musical talent by the cast.

A new system that allows you to not only reserve your tickets, but to also pick the seat you prefer because the system shows what seats are available at each performance. High School’s New Drama Club Will Present Christmas Play
The newly formed Drama Club at Water Valley High School will present a production for your holiday pleasure. Christmas in the Land of Oz is the story of Dorothy Gale of Kansas returning to the Land of Oz in search of some Christmas spirit. Once she arrives in Oz, courtesy of her ruby slippers, Dorothy learns that the Wicked Witch of the Northwest has stolen Christmas.
She and Toto reunite with their old friends, the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Tin Man to save Christmas for the citizens of Oz. You will enjoy your favorite Oz characters, plus a few new ones! The performance runs approximately an hour and will be held in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium Friday evening, December 12, beginning at 7 p.m. The cost is $3 at the door.
Farm Bureau Delegates Will Discuss Policy At Convention
Mississippi Farm Bureau delegates will gather in Jackson for their 87th annual convention, on December 6-8, with an agenda to set policy for the state’s largest farm organization. Jeff Davis School Announces Reunion
The Jeff Davis School’s Christmas reunion will be held December 6, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Masonic Lodge on Champion Circle. All students, family, and friends are invited. Everyone attending should bring a covered dish.
