County’s Relay Organizers Schedule Annual ‘Kickoff’ Meeting
Yalobusha County Relay for Life will hold the annual “Kickoff” Meeting January 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Mechanics Bank Community Room. All team captains, members and committee members are urged to attend. “We will have refreshments and door prizes. We look forward to a great night and hope to see you there,” stated Glenda Gordon, Relay for Life Chairperson.
Lions Club Serves All-U-Care-To-Eat Pancake Breakfast Saturday Morning
The Water Valley Lions Club will hold its monthly pancake breakfast Saturday, January 10, from 6:30 until 9 a.m. Serving will be in the Depot Building on Main Street. You may eat all-you-care-to of pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee for the price of $5 per plate.
“Come out and enjoy a delicious breakfast and some great fellowship, while helping support the many charitable projects of WV Lions,” invites Lion Ernie Aune.
Roadhouse Performs At VFW’s Saturday Night Dance
The regular VFW Saturday Night Dance will feature RoadHouse, a hot new country band, on January 10. Dancing is from 8 p.m. until Midnight. A concession will be available. VFW 4100’s Post Home is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.
Order Of Eastern Star Plans January 13 Meeting
Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will hold its next regular scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 13, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. “We are scheduled to have an initiation at this meeting. We encourage all members to attend,” stated Marjorie Clay, Worthy Matron.
Masons Invite Members To Officer Installation Meeting
McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle on Thursday, January 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
All members of these two Masonic bodies are encouraged to attend. New officers for 2009 will be installed at this meeting. “We need your help and support during this Masonic Year,” stated Edward Huckaby, H.P., and Clyde Herron, Ill.M.
Bingo Action Scheduled At VFW On Friday Night
Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, on Friday, January 9. Play begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years old to play.
VFW Announces Monthly Meeting
Members of VFW Post 4100 and its Auxiliary will have their regular monthly meeting on the third Thursday, January 15, beginning at 7 p.m. All members are urged to be present.
Learn About Legendary Tunnels Under Grenada At Historical Society Meeting
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p. m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. Mark Fielder, Commander of Expedition and Operations, Inc., will speak on “The Tunnel Project.”
He will tell of his search for the legendary tunnels running beneath the town of Grenada. This is a fascinating story, and everyone is invited to come out and hear Mark’s interesting report, said Betty Miller. For more information, call 226-6975.
AARP Driver Safety Class Offered
Would you like to save money on your auto insurance? The AARP driver safety program is a classroom driver refresher course for drivers aged 50 and older. There is a class scheduled at Faith Baptist Church, 1300 Eckford Street in Water Valley on January 16. The course fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Class time is 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (bring a sack lunch).
The course explains the changes that occur in the aging process and provides driving tips for handling these changes. It also serves as a refresher for general driving rules and conditions and provides an update on driving laws.
Mississippi law required all vehicle insurance carriers to offer a discount on premiums to qualified graduates aged 55 and older of approved courses such as the AARP driver safety program. Contact your insurance carrier for details.
