River Road Band Performs At VFW On Saturday Night

  The River Road Band will be featured at the regular VFW Saturday Night Dance on January 31. Dancing will be from 8 until 12 p.m. in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. A concession will be available.

Hatchery Expert Presents Program At Oakland Library

  Justin Wilkens, Manager, North Mississippi Fish Hatchery at Enid Lake, will present a program in the Oakland Public Library on Wednesday, February 11, beginning at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Roll Up Your Sleeve And Donate, State’s Blood Supply Is Very Low

    United Blood Services will hold a blood drive at the Water Valley High School gym on Monday, Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Last Week UBS officials declared a state of emergency as Mississippi’s blood supply is at a very dangerously low level.

Those who wish to donate may also do so at the office in Tupelo at 4326 S. Eason Blvd. Call 662.842.8871 for information. The company has been this area’s non-profit provider since 1972; we serve patients in Northwest Alabama and North Mississippi.

Forest Landowners Association Holds Meeting On February 2

    The Yalobusha County Forest Landowners Association will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday, February 2, at 6:30 pm at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Tim Traugott and Britton Hatcher will address county forestry programs and associations. Longtime Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) employee Lamar Burgess will also speak about some of the programs the NRCS offers.  If you are a forest landowner, you need to attend this program.  Please contact the Extension office at (662) 675-2730 by noon on Friday, January 30, to make reservations to attend.

Childcare Training Offered At Extension Service

The Yalobusha County Extension Service will open its site for the next Childcare Distance Training scheduled February 5.  This training will be held at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building from 6:15 to 8:15 pm.  It is a free service and provides two contact hours for childcare providers.  If you are interested in attending or need additional information, please contact the Extension office at 675-2730.

Extension Service Hosts Quick Bites Program

On Thursday, February 5, there will be a Quick Bites program on “Pruning Basics” at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building in Coffeeville  Pruning techniques as well as proper pruning equipment will be covered in this program. The proper time of year to prune will also be provided.

This program will begin at noon and is open to the public, so please bring a sack lunch and join us for a fun and informative program. For more information, please call our office at 675-2730.

Servsafe Food Certification Class Scheduled To Begin In March

ServSafe Food Certification Class will be taught March 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.  The certification exam will start at 9 a.m. on March 20.  The class will be held at the Yalobusha County Extension Service in Coffeeville.  The cost of the course is $125 and the deadline to register is March 4.

The class is limited to 20 people.  Call the Yalobusha County Extension Service at (662) 675-2730 for additional details and to register.  When calling to sign up, please inform the office of any disabilities that might interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program.  The MSU Extension Service provides educational opportunities to the public on an equal opportunity basis and will make every reasonable effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Billy’s Creek Schedules Annual Meeting

  Billy’s Creek Rural Water Association will have its annual meeting on February 9, at the Sylva Rena Community Center, beginning at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend.

Bingo Action Scheduled Friday

    Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100’s Home,  located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, Friday, January 30, beginning at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Housing Authority Hosts Forum For Medicare, Medicaid Recipients

    The Water Valley Housing Authority is hosting a session for Medicare and Medicaid recipients at 1 p.m. this Friday, January 30th, in the Edgar Community Center at 100 Hunt Lane, RH-17. Mr. Larry Malatesta of Windsor Medicare Extra will be the speaker, offering  Medicare and plan specific information. Malatesta will also field questions about transportation, meals, or other services. The public is invited to attend.
