Main Street Offers Treats For Valentines Day

By Susan Hart

It looks like 6 more weeks of winter, according to Punxsu-tawney Phil. The groundhog emerged from his winter’s nap and saw his shadow again.

Susie Shopper suggests you make the best of the prolonged season: keep your sweetheart(s) happy so they will keep you warm! Valentines Day will be here right on time, Saturday, February 14. Water Valley has the charms, sweets and gifts to save you from your honey’s cold shoulder until Spring finally arrives. Shopping for that someone special may seem difficult, but here are some ideas to consider:

Does your sweetheart…

…hold the keys to your heart? Give a key chain.

…wrap you in love? Give a scarf or blanket.

…light up your life? Give a lamp.

…light your fire? Melt your heart? Give a candle.

…make you light-headed? Give balloons.

…spice up your life? Go out to dinner.

…sweeten your days? Give cakes, chocolates or other candies.

…makes you sing, I Wanna Hold Your Hand? Give gloves or mittens.

These gifts and more can be found right here in Water Valley. Look for the Winter Shoppers Guide (distributed around town). In it you will find the stores that can help you with these suggestions and some of their own. For a copy, contact this office 473-6767. Cupid’s arrow always hits its mark with flowers, candy, balloons and cards, all available downtown.

For a special treat, you can not go wrong with a movie date.

Take your sweetie to the Movie on Main Street showing of “The Princess Bride (1987, Rated PG),” a tale of adventure, revenge, and of course (in honor of Valentine’s Day), true love (see ad on page 2).

Thursday, February 12, in the Wagner/TWL building, 301 Main Street.

Seating begins at 6 p.m. Concessions will be available. Bring your date, your chairs, and maybe even a blanket for snuggling.

“Over and over again,” said Alexe van Beuren, member of the Movie on Main Committee, “the Water Valley folks have said they wish we had a movie theater. So we will be showing a movie on the second Thursday of every month for the next six months, thanks to the community’s support– indoors at the old T.W.L. store this month and outside as soon as the weather warms up.”

Don’t dread six more weeks of winter. Have fun with your sweetheart in downtown Water Valley…Simply Charming.
