WATER VALLEY – The 2009 edition of Water Valley got off to a humbling start at North Pontotoc, losing 10-0. Senior pitching standout Tank Hervey had a rocky start on opening day, but he was offered little help at the plate.
The Vikings jumped on the Blue Devils with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the game was truly put away after North Pontotoc scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings.
North Pontotoc’s starting pitcher Colton Robbins helped his own cause with a homerun, while only sophomore catcher J.D. Fondon recorded a multiple hit game for the Blue Devils with a single and a double. Walt McCullough was the only other Water Valley player that recorded an extra base hit as the sophomore outfielder doubled.
Next up for the Blue Devils is a tournament at Independence, as coach Doug Robbins will attempt to get his Water Valley squad off and going in 2009.
