Cossar Park Officials Announce Easter Activities

    Cossar State Park will hold its annual Easter Activities Saturday, April 11. There will be games for the children, an Easter egg hunt, and the Easter bunny, smokey bear, and woodsy owl will be at the party. Friends of Cossar will also have a concession stand open. Activities kick off at 10 a.m.

Youth League Hosts Tennis Tournament

    The Magnolia Youth League will host a fundraising tennis tournament on Saturday, April 4. The tournament will be for men’s and women’s doubles. The cost to enter will be $50 per team. Anyone interested in signing up can contact Jeff Bynum at 473-3269 or Lance Clement at 473-2582.

Tillatoba Fire Department Schedules Fish Fry Fundraiser

  The Tillatoba Volunteer Fire Department will have a fish fry on April 4, starting at 4 p.m. Fish plates are $8 and are available for dine-in or carry out. All proceeds will go towards the building fund and the purchase of new equipment for the fire department.

Sigma Alpha Schedule Poker Run

    The Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropic Poker Run for motorcycles and bicycles is scheduled Saturday, April 4, with a rain date of April 18. The motorcycle starting point is Oxford Outdoors. The bicycle starting point is the Gertrude Castello W. Ford Center parking lot. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. at both places. The first bike out is at 11 a.m. and the last bike out is at 12:30 p.m.

    The fee is $25, $10 for the card hand and $15 for a T-shirt. If you have questions, comments, or wish to pre-register, e-mail Kelley Reinemann at klreinem@olemiss.edu. This event will raise money for Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. to promote the continuation of music education and appreciation throughout the community.

Chamber Banquet Set For April 9

    The Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet will be held Thursday, April 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building at Water Valley High School. The speaker for the banquet will be Congressman Travis Childers.

    “Reserve this date for a steak dinner and a relaxing evening,” stated Chamber of Commerce Manager Bonnie Cox. Tickets may be purchased from any Chamber of Commerce director or at the chamber office. Price of tickets is $15 each.

Junior Auxiliary Sponsors Egg Hunt

There will be an Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 4, at City Park on North Main Street sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley. The event is for youngsters pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. Prizes will be awarded to the boy and girl in each age group who finds the most eggs. Snacks will be served following the hunt.

Kindergarten Registration Is Scheduled For Thursday, April 16

    Kindergarten registration will be Thursday, April 16 ,from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Davidson Elementary school library.  Parents must bring the following documents to complete the registration process:

certified birth certificate, Mississippi certificate of immunization, Social Security card, and two proofs of residency. School officials encourage parents to register early to make the first day of school an easy and enjoyable day.

Sylva Rena’s Relay For Life Team Hosts Garage Sale

    The Sylva Rena Community Relay for Life Team is having a garage sale on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 8 a.m., in the Sylva Rena Baptist Church parking lot on Highway 32 West. This sale will contain items from more than 15 families. Rain date will be April 18.

Thursday Meeting Scheduled At Lodge

  Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will host its next Stated Communication on Thursday, April 2, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend and support your Lodge.

Garden Club Offers Pavers

    The Garden Club of Water Valley is selling commemorative pavers in honor/memory of anyone who has served their country in any branch of the miliary. Pavers are to be placed around the flagpole in city park. Cost per paver is $50. Call Cheryl Pass at 473-2324 or Jane Franklin at 473-2158 to place an order.

Lions Club Offers Pancake Breakfast

    The Water Valley Lions Club will served their first-of-the-month pancake breakfast Saturday, April 4, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. in the Lions Depot Building on Main Street. Plates will be $5 each and will include all you care to eat of pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.     

    “Come out, enjoy a delicious meal, and some great fellowship, while helping fund the many charitable projects of the local Lions Club,” invites Lion Ernie Aune.

Federal Employees Schedule Meeting

Chapter 1659, National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will meet on Thursday, April 9 at the Prime Steak House in the Downtown Inn on Lamar just north of the Square in Oxford.  Lunch will be available.

All members, all active and retired federal employees, family and friends are invited to attend.

Springdale Family Worship Center Sells Barbecues To Raise Money

  Springdale Family Worship Center will sell barbecue on Sunday, April 5, at 12 p.m. “Come out and support our youth for their trip to Kidsfest,” invites Bro. Keith Davis. Adult plates are $8 and a child’s plates is $5. Barbeque plates include a sandwich, beans, coleslaw, dessert and sweet tea. To place orders, call 473-2113. “Thank you for your support,” concluded Bro. Davis.

 Annual Staff Offers 2008-2009 Books

 The Water Valley High School annual staff is now selling the 2008-09 all-color annual. You can reserve yours during the month of April for $40, but after April the cost will increase to $50. See annual staff members, Jazzlynn Hickman, Jillian Harris, Mary Cloud Taylor, Josh Sullivan, or Aaron Williamson, to reserve your annual. You may also contact Jo Ann King at 473-4864.

 VFW Schedules Bingo Action

  VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, April 3. Join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 Rolling Thunder Entertains At VFW

  Saturday night, April 4, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a night of musical entertainment by the Rolling Thunder Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening or dancing to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, stated Senior Vice Commander David Rhines.

 Dynamic Conquerors Announce Bake Sale Fundraiser

    American Cancer Society Dynamic Conquerors Relay for Life Team, Yalobusha County Idol will have a bake sale April 4 in Piggly Wiggly’s parking lot from 9 a.m.-until. They will also have a yard sale at 411 Martin St., 8 a.m.-until, on the same date. All monies raised will go to Relay for Life Yalobusha County Idol Title.

 Horse Show Schedule Friday At Multi-purpose Building

The second horse show of the season is scheduled Friday night, April 3, at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building in Coffeeville.  The weather looks to be cooperative, so come and enjoy the horse show.  Training barrels will start at 6:30 pm and the show will start at 8 p.m.  The show is free and open to the public.

  Quick Bites Programs Offers Tomato Growing Insight

There will be a Quick Bites program on Thursday, April 2, at noon at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Judging by the number of calls received by the staff at the Multi-purpose building on tomatoes and gardening this year, it should be a large turnout.  Bring your lunch and let’s learn how we can successfully grow tomatoes.

 
 MSU Forestry Expert Updates Landowners On New Beetle

On April 6 at 6:30 pm at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building, Dr. Andy Londo, MSU-ES Forester, will present a program on the emerald borer.  All forest landowners are encouraged to attend.  Please call the Extension office at 675-2730 by April 3 to make reservations.
