Soldier Send Off Includes Vallians
On Monday, April 13, the Family Readiness Group is having a “soldier send off” for the Mississippi National Guard Delta Company 2-198 (formerly HHC 2-198) at 9:30 a.m. at the Batesville Civic Center.
Six soldiers from Water Valley will be deploying with this unit. The soldiers include Staff Sergeant Tony Hernandez, Jr., Sergeant John Hernandez, Corporal Jason Brown, Private First Class Tracy Woods, Private Christopher Bishop and Private Randall Perkins.
The Company will be stationed at Balad Airbase in Northern Iraq for approximately a year. Balad Airbase is located in Northern Iraq approximately 68 kilometers North of Baghdad. Balad Airbase is one of the largest Airbases in Iraq.

Cossar Park Officials Announce Easter Activities
Cossar State Park will hold its annual Easter Activities Saturday, April 11. There will be games for the children, an Easter egg hunt, and the Easter bunny, smokey bear, and woodsy owl will be at the party. Friends of Cossar will also have a concession stand open. Activities kick off at 10 a.m.
Kindergarten Registration Is Scheduled For Thursday, April 16
Kindergarten registration will be Thursday, April 16, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Davidson Elementary school library. Parents must bring the following documents to complete the registration process:
certified birth certificate, Mississippi certificate of immunization, Social Security card, and two proofs of residency. School officials encourage parents to register early to make the first day of school an easy and enjoyable day.
Relay For Life Announces Monthly Meeting Date
The monthly meeting for Relay for Life will be held Tuesday, April 14. Committee members will meet at 5:30 p.m. and team captains or a representative will meet at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Yalobusha Country Club. “Make plans to attend,” stated Chairman Glenda Gordon.
Garden Club Offers Pavers
The Garden Club of Water Valley is selling commemorative pavers in honor/memory of anyone who has served their country in any branch of the miliary. Pavers are to be placed around the flagpole in city park. Cost per paver is $50. Call Cheryl Pass at 473-2324 or Jane Franklin at 473-2158 to place an order.
Federal Employees Schedule Meeting
Chapter 1659, National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will meet on Thursday, April 9 at the Prime Steak House in the Downtown Inn on Lamar just north of the Square in Oxford. Lunch will be available.
All members, all active and retired federal employees, family and friends are invited to attend.

Luminarias Are Available
Luminarias can be purchased at Mechanics Bank, or by seeing Pat Holiday. They are also available at the Yalobusha Country Club from Glenda Gordon, Event Chairman.
Luminarias that are purchased are a symbol of remembrance and hope. It symbolizes a time to grieve for those we have lost, to reflect on our cancer experience, or that of those closest to us, and to find hope that tomorrow holds the promise of a cancer-free world. Luminarias purchased in memory of a cancer victim or in honor of a cancer survivor cost $10. “Help us light the track during Relay For Life on April 24, 2009,” says Gordon.
Masonic Meetings Scheduled
McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle on Thursday, April 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members of these two Masonic Bodies are encouraged to attend. Organizers report your help and support is needed this year.
Eastern Star Announce Meeting
Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will have its next meeting on April 14, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Grief Support Groups Offered To Public
North Mississippi Hospice of Oxford sponsors grief support groups that meet every month. These group meetings are open to anyone who has experienced loss. The upcoming meeting dates at Azalea Gardens in Oxford are: Tuesday, April 14, from 6-7 p.m., and Wednesday, April 22, from noon to 1 p.m. A light lunch will be provided at the noon group meeting. Water Association Audit Is Available
The books of the Jeff Davis Rural Water Association have been audited by a certified public accountant. A copy may be obtained by written request to 6113 CR 436, Water Valley, MS 38965. A copy has been placed in the Blackmur Memorial Library in Water Valley.
Bingo Scheduled Friday Night
VFW bingo will be playing Friday night, April 10. Come join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m. and the first of 24 games starts at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
VFW Invites The Public To Enjoy Live Entertainment Saturday Night
Saturday night, April 11, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by “Duff” Borrough-George Allen and Friends. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight.

Pine Valley Trail Ride Is Set For May 9
The annual trail ride held at the Pine Valley School will be the second Saturday in May (as always) and it is on May 9 this year. All proceeds from the trail ride are used for the renovation and the upkeep of the Pine Valley School Community Center, Inc. “Please mark your calendar for this event,” stated Joni Camp, Publicity Chairperson.
Horse Show This Friday Night At Multipurpose Building In Coffeeville
The second horse show of the season is scheduled Friday night, April 10, in the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building in Coffeeville. The weather looks to be cooperative, so come and enjoy the horse show. Training barrels will start at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m. The show is open to the public.
