Boys Track Team Win Division, Girls Place Second

The Water Valley Blue Devils Track Team won the Division 2-2A Championship and set a school record with 218 points during district competition last Thursday at Coldwater High School. Other schools participating in division play include H. W. Byars, 2nd, with 115 points; Walnut, 3rd, with 54 points; Bruce, 4th, with 36 points; Mantachie, 5th, with 28 points; and New Site, 6th, with 16 points.
The Blue Devis had 12 first place finishes, including: pole vault, Cortellius Magee; shot put, J. J. Woodard; discuss, Daimion Pollard; triple jump, Benny Weekly; high jump, Travis Toles; 110-meter hurdle, Drew Magee; 4×2 relay, D. C. Logan, Eric Buckley, Cory Carr, and Laquinton Horton; 1600 meter run, Tevon Coleman; 400 meter dash, Laquinton Horton; 300 meter hurdle, Travis Toles; 800 meter run, Tevon Coleman; 4×4 relay, D. C. Logan, Tavis Toles, Keith Carr, and Laquinton Horton.
Second place winners include: long jump, Eric Buckley; triple jump, Torrey Horton; high jump, A. J. Folson; 110-meter hurdle, Cortellius Magee; 100-meter dash, D. C. Logan; 4×1 relay, D. C. Logan, Torrey Horton, Zinty Allen, and Eric Buckley; 300-meter hurdle, Drew Magee; and 200-meter dash, Corey Carr;
Finishing in 3rd place were: Shot Putt, Marricao Hayes; 100-meter dash, Caorey Carr; and 200-meter dash, Laquinton Horton.
Taking fourth place were: 400-meter dash, C. J. Jackson; and 800-meter run, Keith Carr. In the 3200-meter Run, Dillion Dickey placed fifth.
Sixteen members of the Blue Devil Team qualified for the Region Meet, which will be held April 25 in Coldwater. “I am very proud of these boys. They did a great job,” stated Coach Murray Dixon.
Girls Team
It tight competition, with 126 points, the Lady Devils Track Team finished in second place in division play behind H. W. Byars, who had 127 points.
“Even though the girls lost by one point, I am very proud of them, because this is a rebuilding year. They will all be back next year,” stated Coach Dixon.
The Lady Devils first place Winners at this meet had the standard set by Vernada Woodard, who took the honors in shot put, discuss, and 100-meter hurdle. Others coming in first were Ashley Phillips, 100-meter dash; and 300 meter hurdle, Erika Rice.
Others placing include: second place, shot put, Lakisha Holmes; 4×2 relay, Nakresha Folson, Audranna Wise, Erika Rice, Ashley Phillips; 4×1 relay, Nakresha Folson, Audranna, Wise, Erika Rice, and Ashley Phillips; 200-meter dash, Ashley Phillips; and 4×4 relay, Niketa Wilson, April Phillips, Davelin Woodard, and Jasmine Alford; third place, 3200-meter run, Kanicia White; 100-meter hurdle, Erika Rice; 400 meter dash, Davelin Woodard; fourth place, long jump, Alexica Martin; 1600 meter run, Niketa Wilson; 800-meter run, April Phillips; fifth place, 100-meter dash, Audranna Wise; 400-meter dash, Jasmine Alford; and sixth place, 800-meter run, Santana Hervey.
Twelve girls qualified for the region meet, which will also be held next week in Coldwater.
