High School Principal Invites Parents To Informative Meeting

    All parents of Water Valley High School students are invited to an informal time of questioning, sharing and fellowship Monday, April 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the school library. There will be an open-forum time for parents to ask questions and share ideas with Principal Glenn Kitchens. Additionally, there will be a presentation on assisting students with coping skills for negative events in their home lives.

 

Garden Club Offers Pavers

    The Garden Club of Water Valley is selling commemorative pavers in honor/memory of anyone who has served their country in any branch of the miliary. Pavers are to be placed around the flagpole in city park. Cost per paver is $50. Call Cheryl Pass at 473-2324 or Jane Franklin at 473-2158 to place an order.

 

VFW Sponsors Bingo Action

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, April 24. Come join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m, and the first of 24 games starts at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

River Road Band  Performs At VFW

  Saturday night, April 25, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by the River Road Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening or dancing to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” says Commander Sam Phillips.

 

Masons Schedule Thursday Meeting

    St. Cyr Commandery No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, April 23, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. Please support your Commandry by making a special effort to attend. We need your help and support during this coming year.

 

Pink Ladies Hold Bake Sale

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will hold their annual Mother’s Day Bake Sale Saturday, May 9 (Founders Day), in the park. “Come by and pick up your Mother’s Day goodies. All proceeds go to help the hospital and nursing home,” say the Pink Ladies.

 

Tickets Offered For Quilt Raffle

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will raffle off a quilt during the Watermelon Carnival. Tickets are $1 and may be purchased from any Pink Lady. All proceeds will go to help the hospital and nursing home.

 

Fundraiser Benefits FCCLA Student’s Expenses In National Competition

    A yard and bake sale will be held Saturday, April 25, at the Farmer’s Market in Water Valley. The proceeds from this sale will be used to help Tatianna Doss, a junior at Water Valley High School, with her trip for the FCCLA Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee in June. She will represent the WVHS Chapter. She, along with two other students, placed for this national competition. All donations will be greatly appreciated. She, along with some of her classmates who are helping her to raise the money needed for the trip, will be located at Larson’s Piggly Wiggly.

 

Davidson Support Group Plans Final Meeting

 Davidson Elementary School Parent Support Group will have its final meeting for this school year Tuesday, April 28, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Officers for next year will be elected and information to help children be successful on the Mississippi Curriculum Test 2 will be shared. All parents and community members are welcome.

 

Retired Educators Announce Quarterly Meeting On April 30

 The Yalobusha County Retired Educational Personnel Association will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, April 30. The meeting will be held in the Mechanics Bank Community Room in Water Valley, beginning at 10 a.m.

  “We encourage all members to attend. We do value your input and we need your support. We remain open to new membership,” stated Mrs. Mamie H. Shields, president, and Dorothy Kee, secretary.

 

Municipal Executive Committee Plans Meeting At Oakland Town Hall

     There will be a meeting held by the Municipal Executive Committee on Friday evening, May 1, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Oakland Town Hall.

  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the election procedures to be followed on May 5. Elected officials from all municipalities in Yalobusha County are requested to be present, if possible.

  This meeting is open to the public and everyone is cordially invited to attend.

 

Pine Valley Trail Ride Is Set For May 9

    The annual trail ride held at the Pine Valley School will be the second Saturday in May (as always) and it is on May 9 this year. All proceeds from the trail ride are used for the renovation and the upkeep of the Pine Valley School Community Center, Inc.

    “Please mark your calendar for this event,” stated Joni Camp, Publicity Chairperson.

 

Pleasant Grove Church Schedules Deacons’ Day

  Pastor Mitchell Steen and the Pleasant Grove (Bryant) Church Family extend a cordial invitation for all to share in the Annual Deacons’ Day to be held Sunday, April 26, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Each church is requested to send two deacons or stewards to represent their congregation. A fellowship luncheon, providing fuel for the body, will be served.

   Pastor Keith Howard will deliver spiritual nourishment for the soul. He and his congregation, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, will be guests for the afternoon.
