Pink Ladies Hold Bake Sale

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will hold their annual Mother’s Day Bake Sale Saturday, May 9 (Founders Day), in the park. “Come by and pick up your Mother’s Day goodies. All proceeds go to help the hospital and nursing home,” say the Pink Ladies.

 

Tickets Offered For Quilt Raffle

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will raffle off a quilt during the Watermelon Carnival. Tickets are $1 and may be purchased from any Pink Lady. All proceeds will go to help the hospital and nursing home.

 

Retired Educators Announce Quarterly Meeting On April 30

 The Yalobusha County Retired Educational Personnel Association will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, April 30. The meeting will be held in the Mechanics Bank Community Room in Water Valley, beginning at 10 a.m.

  “We encourage all members to attend. We do value your input and we need your support. We remain open to new membership,” stated Mrs. Mamie H. Shields, president, and Dorothy Kee, secretary.

 

Municipal Executive Committee Plans Meeting At Oakland Town Hall

     There will be a meeting held by the Municipal Executive Committee on Friday evening, May 1, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Oakland Town Hall.

  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the election procedures to be followed on May 5. Elected officials from all municipalities in Yalobusha County are requested to be present, if possible.

  This meeting is open to the public and everyone is cordially invited to attend.

 

Oxford VFW Post Sponsors Gospel Music Karaoke

    Gospel Music Karaoke, sponsored by Oxford V.F.W. Post 3978, will be held Saturday, May 2, from 2-6 p.m. in the Veterans Building, 125 Veterans Drive (across from the Veterans Home). Proceeds will go to the new Oxford Veterans Memorial Park. Donations will be accepted. Bring you own Gospel Karaoke CDs or pick from those supplied. A concession stand will be open. Yard Sale Benefits FUM Youth Fund

    A yard sale to benefit the First United Methodist youth fund will be held at 707 Blackmur Drive Saturday, May 2, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Items available will be exercise equipment, decorating items, some furniture and much more.

 

Davidson Class Of 1967 Hosts Annual Bake Sale

    The Davidson High School Class of 1967 will be hosting their annual bake sale on Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. until noon, in front of Larson’s Big Star. They will have lots of homemade cakes, fried pies, cookies, pies, etc. They invite everyone to come out and purchase these delicious items for your Mother’s Day dinner. Lions Club Will Serve Final Pancake Breakfast Before Summer Break

  The Water Valley Lions Club will serve their final pancake breakfast, before taking the summer off. They will resume this event on Watermelon Carnival Saturday. Serving Saturday morning will begin at 6:30 a.m. and continue until 9 in the Lions Depot Building on Main Street. For $5 per plate you may eat all the pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee you desire. “Everyone is invited to come out, enjoy a delicious meal and some great fellowship, while helping fund the many Lions Club charitable projects,” stated Lion Ernie Aune.

 

Kudzu Workshop At Extension Office Offers Valuable Information

    Is kudzu taking over your property?  Kudzu is one of the ten worst invasive species in the United States!  Do you know how to control kudzu?  Do you know that there are landowner assistance programs to help control kudzu?  If not, then come to the “Kudzu Control Workshop” to be held in Coffeeville.

    Attendees will meet at the Yalobusha County Extension Office (Multipurpose Building) on Wednesday, May 13, at 10 a.m. Registration is required for attendance, but there is no fee.  Please call the Extension office at 675-2730 by May 8 to register.

     This workshop is specifically for private landowners and professional foresters that want to learn how to get rid of kudzu. We will also tour an area that was sprayed with herbicides to demonstrate kudzu control.  Please wear appropriate field clothes, boots, and insect repellent.

 

Pine Valley Trail Ride Will Be Held May 9

    The annual trail ride held at the Pine Valley School will be the second Saturday in May (as always) and it is on May 9 this year. All proceeds from the trail ride are used for the renovation and the upkeep of the Pine Valley School Community Center, Inc.
