Thompson-Ward Schedules Benefit For Softball Field

Steve Thompson and Bryan Ward

Thompson-Ward will present a benefit concert Friday, May 29, to benefit the Lady Devils Softball Field currently under construction west of Water Valley High School.

Steve Thompson and Bryan Ward will play their “inspired mix of country, rock, soul and Mississippi roots” from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. in the parking lot of the Yalobusha Country Club.

The softball field boosters are sponsoring the concert and all of the money collected will go to the field, according to Thompson. “The girls don’t have a field to play on,” he said. “We’re just doing our part to help out.”

Thompson-Ward was recently selected as a top 20 new act to watch by the Country Music Association. Their debut album, Porch Funk, was released last year.

Work began on the field, which is located in an area known as “the hole” in August 2007. All of the work is being done by volunteers with mostly contributed materials.

“We have still got a lot more to do,” said the team’s coach, Shane Brown. The softball field’s booster club has undertaken the project to give the team a permanent home field. The team has played on a field at Crawford Sports Complex.
