Donations Requested For Cemetery Upkeep

  Members at Spring Hill North M.B. Church are again asking for donations for the upkeep and lawn services for the cemetery. “We are asking all families and members to help do your part in contributing to this annual requirement,” stated Roland Hoskins.

    Anyone interested  in contributing is asked to make checks, money orders, etc. payable to Spring Hill North M.B. Church, and send them to Spring Hill North Cemetery Fund, c/o Roland Hoskins, 331 Suggs St., Water Valley, MS 38965.

 

Water Valley Class Of 1974 Announces Reunion Activities

    The Water Valley High School Class of 1974 has planned their 35th class reunion for Saturday, August 1, during the Watermelon Carnival Weekend. A tent will be set up in the park from Friday, 6 p.m., through Saturday, 3 p.m., for the classmates to visit. There will be a meal with entertainment on Saturday night. Murphree Genealogical Convention To Be Held In Oxford Mid-July

    The 2009 Murphree Genealogical Association convention will be held in Oxford on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25. Activities include genealogy research, banquet and a tour of Murphree related historical sites.

    All events will be held at the Downtown Oxford Inn & Suites in Oxford. All Murphree decedents are welcome to all or any of the events during the convention. Cost start at $15.00 for genealogy research for both days. The banquet on Saturday night will be $37.00 per person

Eastern Star Bake Sale This Saturday

    St. Joseph Chapter No. 8, Order of Eastern Star will host a bake sale on Saturday, June 20. The sale will be from 8 a.m. until noon in front of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly. There will be plenty of cakes, pies, and banana bread. Everyone is invited to purchase these delicious homemade items, which will make perfect Father’s Day treats.

 

Church Will Maintain Cemetery

  As of June 15, Camp Ground Baptist Church will accept the responsibility of maintaining the Camp Ground Cemetery. Virgil Nelson, Jr. is no longer available to maintain this cemetery. The church would like to thank Mr. Nelson, his late father, and others for their time and dedication in caring for the cemetery for the past years. If anyone would like to make a donation for the maintenance and upkeep of Camp Ground Cemetery, please make your donations payable to Camp Ground Cemetery Fund at Mechanics Bank.

 

Gospel Tones Celebrate 23rd Anniversary In Yalobusha County

    Gospel Tones will celebrate their anniversary June 21, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Civic Auditorium at Water Valley. Everyone is invited to help the Gospel Tones celebrate their 23rd anniversary. Admission is free. The program will feature the honorees, with special guests, The Mighty Gospel Warriors of Bruce, and many more,

Wrestling Match Benefits Doss Family

    A benefit for Davy and Lisa Doss, who lost their home to fire, will be held June 20 in the Bruce National Guard Armory. Bad Boy Productions and Double L Depot will sponsor the wrestling benefit. Bell time will be 7:30 p.m. and admission is a $10 donation to the Doss Family. Double L Depot will offer pulled pork and leg quarters plates beginning at noon for a $7 donation to the Doss family. Clean-up Day Scheduled At Cemetery

    A clean-up day for Bethel Cemetery, located in the Teasdale Community at Enid, will be held Saturday, June 20. The clean-up is necessary due to storm damage. There are approximately 40 trees down. All help is welcome and needed.

 

Theatre Oxford Holds Auditions

    Theatre Oxford will hold auditions for The Clean House, by Sarah Ruhl, on Saturday, June 27, from 2 to 4 p.m.  Roles are available for four women, ages 20 – 70,  and one middle-aged man.  Prepared audition pieces welcome; readings also provided.  Familiarity with Portuguese a plus for one female role.  Stage management and back stage positions also available.  Experienced and first time actors, etc. are welcome.  Call backs will be Sunday, June 28, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., if necessary.  This Pulitzer Prize nominated comedy will be directed by Felipe E. Magnolia Youth League Will Host Invitational Baseball Tournament

The Water Valley Invitational Baseball Tournament will be held this weekend, June 19-21, at Crawford Sports Complex. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children, six and up. A three-day pass is available for $12 for adults and $10 for children. The tournament is hosted by the Magnolia Youth League and will feature teams from Batesville, Tupelo, Fulton, Grenada, and Pontotoc.

 

July 1 Is Deadline To Purchase Ad

The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce is selling ads for the annual Watermelon Carnival Program. The deadline to reserve a spot is July 1. For more information, call the Chamber office at 473-1122 and talk to Bonnie or Mary Sue.

 

Saturday Marks Last Open Horse Show

    This Saturday, June 20, is the last open horse show before the 4-H shows start.  This should be an extremely large horse show as everyone will be tuning up for the district 4-H show the following week.  Some of the best horses in the state will be at this show.  The judged horse show will start at 2 pm, and unfortunately, the timed event classes have not been starting until after 10 pm.  As usual, this show is open to the public and there is no admission fee.

 

 Private Applicators’ Training Offered

    There will be a Private Applicators’ training at 6 pm on June 23 at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Anyone needing a Private Applicators’ License will need to attend this training.  There is a $10 charge.

 

Sign Language Workshop Scheduled

There will be an American sign language workshop offered for children  June 22 to  June 25, 2009 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the University Of Mississippi, Student Union, Room 404 B.The registration fee and materials cost is $35. The schedule for the Students/Adults will be held at the same location from June 22 to 25, 2009 starting at 11 a.m.. Classes are one hour long and the registration/materials cost is  $50.

The American Sign Language workshop is designed to provide participants an opportunity to learn American Sign Language (learning how to speak with your hands). Participants will be introduced to finger-spelling, basic communication skills of the language, and deaf culture. At the end of the workshop, participants will have an opportunity to interact with the deaf by attending a luncheon.
