Stewart Family Celebrates Family Reunion On July 11
The 30th annual Stewart reunion will be held Saturday, July 11, in the Masonic Temple, located at 122 Champion Circle, Water Valley. This is just off Highway 7 South. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Those attending are asked to bring a “pot luck” dish to share at noon. If you have questions contact Patricia at 473-4788. “We hope to see you there,” she concluded.
Proofs Of Residency Required For Students Attending Schools
All new and returning students in Water Valley Schools must furnish two proofs of residence for registration. Have your proofs of residence ready for copy, or bring copies ready to turn in, at registration. Information cards must be completed and two proofs of residence must be submitted before a student is issued a schedule. The parent/guardian must complete and sign the information card.
Lions Club Raffle Flat Screen TV
The Water Valley Lions Club will have a raffle for a flat screen Vizio 32” LCD HDTV. The television will be given away during the noon ceremony at the gazebo on Carnival Day, Saturday, August 1. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member and cost $1 each or 6 for $5.
Also, on some Fridays, the Lions will showcase the television at a booth in front of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly. On these days, they will be playing CDs of vintage trains between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at these times.
Blackmur Hosts Summer Storytime
Blackmur Memorial Library will have its Summer Storytime Program on Wednesday mornings, beginning in July.
The program will feature stories read to children by volunteers and each program will end with a snack time. Children and their parents will also be able to check out books for their own summertime enjoyment at home.
The program will begin Wednesday, July 1, at 9:30 a.m., and will continue for the next several weeks. Each program will last about 45 minutes. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.
If there are any groups who wish to attend a Summer Storytime Program, or if there are any questions, please contact Joe or Lisa at 473-2444. Volunteers for reading are also welcome.
Benefit For Bro. Gray Set For July 17
A benefit program for Brother Johnny C. Gray will be held on Friday, July 17, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Building in Pittsboro. Bro. Gray has cancer and has to have a bone marrow transplant. “We are asking all singing groups, choirs, solo singers, drama teams, and all groups to come and render two selections of your choice,” says Ruth C.F. Class of 1969 Celebrates 40 Years
The Water Valley High School Class of 1969 will celebrate its 40-year reunion Friday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church. Any class member not contacted by mail or who needs additional information about the reunion can contact Jerry Holt at (662) 473-3127.
Class of 1962 Announces Reunion
The Water Valley High School Class of 1962 will join the Class of 1963 on Saturday, August 1, in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church to visit and “cool off” during the Watermelon Carnival. Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, July 14, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend.
|Grenada Lake Artifacts Is Topic At July 17 Historical Meeting
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p. m. on Thursday, July 16 in its headquarters, the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The guest speaker will be Woody Jones, a Coffeeville native, now of Calhoun City. He will speak on “Archeology and Artifacts as Related to Grenada Lake.” The public is invited to all meetings of the Historical Society. For additional information, contact Betty R. How To Use Native Plants In Landscape Demonstration Set
On Thursday, July 9, there will be a Quick Bites program at noon at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. Dr. Lelia Kelly, MSU-ES Horticulturist, will demonstrate how to use native plants in your home landscape. If you are interested in this program, please attend the noon program.
Childcare Training ClassesOffered In July
There are two upcoming Childcare Trainings scheduled this month at the Yalobusha County Extension Service. The trainings will be Tuesday, July 14, and Thursday, July 23, from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Both trainings will be delivered by a childcare training specialist who will be at our site. If you are a childcare provider and if you need continuing education hours, you may want to attend these programs. Bingo Scheduled Friday Night
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, July 10. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6 and the first of 24 games will be played at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Rolling Thunder Band To Play At VFW This Saturday Night
Saturday night, July 11, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by the Rolling Thunder Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us for listening or dancing to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Monthly Meeting Scheduled
McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM and J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle on Thursday, July 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members of these two Masonic Bodies are encouraged to attend. Your held and support is needed during this Masonic Year.
Multi-class Reunion Set For Aug. 1
A multi-class reunion will be held on Aug. 1 in conjunction with the Watermelon Carnival The event will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church in Water Valley.
The reunion is being planned by a group of former WVHS students who regularly meet online at the MyFamily.com site designated for Water Vallians, past and present.
