Spring Hill Announce Opening For Child Care Director

    Spring Hill North M.B. Church and Child Care Center are accepting resumes for a Child Care Director. The applicant shall be at least 21 years of age and meet Mississippi State Department of Health requirements. Resumes can be left at Spring Hill North Child Center Monday-Friday from 5 a.m.-6 p.m. Deadline for resumes is July 24, by 5 p.m.

 

Friday Fundraiser Benefits Gray

    The Gray family and anyone who would like to help will take up money in boots at the traffic lights in Water Valley on Friday, July 24, from 2 to 6 p.m. This benefit is for Johnny C. Gray, who must have a bone marrow transplant to fight his cancer.

  His sisters, Mittie Gee, Mary Powell, and Ella Sue Armstrong all live in Water Valley. If you would like to help with this project call Mittie Gee at 473-8317 or Mary Powell at 473-1710.

 

Jeff Davis Class Celebrates 60 Years

  Members of the Class of 1949 will celebrate their 60th anniversary during the Jeff Davis School reunion, which will be held Saturday, August 1, in the Masonic Lodge on Champion Circle, beginning at 6 p.m. All students, family, and friends are invited to attend. Please bring a pot luck dish if attending. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

 

Masons Announce Thursday Meeting

    St. Cyr Commandery No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, July 23, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. There will be a fellowship hour beginning at 6:30 p.m. All members are urged to support your Commandry by making a special effort to attend. Your help and support is needed during this coming year.

 

Quarterly Meeting For Retirees Cancelled

  The officers and members of the Yalobusha County Retired Personnel Association will not assemble for its quarterly meeting on July 30. Regularly scheduled meetings will resume in October. Mrs. Mamie H. Shields is president of the Association and Mrs. Dorothy A. Kee is secretary.

 

Murphree Family Holds National Convention

 The 2009 Murphree Genealogical Association convention will be held in Oxford on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25. Activities include genealogy research, a banquet and a tour of Murphree related historical sites.

  All events will be held in the Downtown Oxford Inn and Suites in Oxford.  All Murphree decedents are welcome to all, or any, of the events during the convention. Cost starts at $15 for genealogy research for both days. The banquet Saturday night will be $37 per person. This is the national convention for all Murphrees no matter where you’re from. Proofs Of Residency Required For Students Attending Schools

 All new and returning students in Water Valley Schools must furnish two proofs of residence for registration. Have your proofs of residence ready for copy, or bring copies ready to turn in, at registration. Information cards must be completed and two proofs of residence must be submitted before a student is issued a schedule. The parent/guardian must complete and sign the information card.

 

Lions Club Raffle Flat Screen TV

  The Water Valley Lions Club will have a raffle for a flat screen Vizio 32” LCD HDTV. The television will be given away during the noon ceremony at the gazebo on Carnival Day, Saturday, August 1. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member and cost $1 each or 6 for $5.

    Also, on some Fridays, the Lions will showcase the television at a booth in front of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly.

 

Class of 1969 Celebrates 40 Years

    The Water Valley High School Class of 1969 will celebrate its 40-year reunion Friday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church. Any class member not contacted by mail or who needs additional information about the reunion can contact Jerry Holt at (662) 473-3127.

 

Classes of 1962 and 1963 Announce Joint Reunion

  The Water Valley Classes of 1962 and 1963 will meet on Saturday, August 1, in the Ladies Class Room at First Christian Church to visit and “cool” off during the Watermelon Carnival. Friends and families are invited to drop by and visit. “We will look for you from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.,” stated Carol Gafford. |Childcare Training And Horse Show Scheduled for Multipurpose Bld.

There will be a Childcare training on Thursday, July 23, at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building from 6:15 – 8:15 pm.  This training will be delivered by a Childcare Training Specialist from the Mississippi Child Care Resource and Referral Center.  For information, contact the Extension office at 675-2730.

On Saturday, July 25th, there will be Tri-Lakes Western Horse Show at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building starting at 2:00 pm.  This event is free and open to the public.

 

Multi-class Reunion Set For Aug. 1

A multi-class reunion will be held on Aug. 1 in conjunction with the Watermelon Carnival. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church in Water Valley.

The reunion is being planned by a group of former WVHS students who regularly meet online at the MyFamily.com site designated for Water Vallians, past and present.

Class Of 1949 Celebrates 60 Years

  The Water Valley High School Class of 1949 is celebrating 60 years on August 1, 2009. A brunch will be held in the First United Methodist Church “Parlor” at nine o’clock in the morning. Visitors are invited to join the class from 10:30 a.m. until Noon.

  The Water Valley High School Class of 1948 will meet Saturday, August 1, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church.

 

Library Offers Summer Storytime Fun

    Blackmur Memorial Library is hosting Summer Storytime Programs every Wednesday morning in July. Programs begin at 9:30 a.m. and will last about 30 minutes. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

  The program features stories read to children by volunteers and each program will end with a snack time. Children and their parents will also be able to check out books for their own summertime enjoyment at home.

Arts Council Offers Events Calendar For Artistic And Cultural Happenings

  The Water Valley Arts Council Website now has an events calendar. Watervalleyartscouncil.com is the internet address for the new Water Valley Arts Council website, which will feature a calendar of artistic and cultural events as well as biographic sketches of local artists and performers, and examples of their works.

  Individuals, community groups, businesses and religious organizations who are planning events such as recitals, concerts, studio showings, theatrical performances and workshops are encouraged to post the information on the Arts Council’s calendar. VFW Offers Friday Bingo Action

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, July 24. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games starts at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

VFW Schedules Saturday Entertainment

  VFW Post 4100 welcomes the public to a musical night of entertainment by the Long Shot Band on Saturday, July 25. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening, or dancing, to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535, Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Organizers Announce O’Tuckolofa School Reunion

  The O’Tuckolofa School Reunion will be held Saturday, August 8, in O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Food will be furnished. Everyone is invited to attend this reunion, especially former students, teachers, family and friends.
