Drug Awareness Is Topic At Saturday Program
Along the Way Ministry will host a drug awareness program for the youth of Water Valley on Saturday, August 15, beginning at 10 a.m. The program will be held at 119 Main Street (the old NAPA Building). The program will be taught by Pastor Phillip Brackett of Everdale Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Brackett is affiliated with the Bruce School District Drug Awareness Program. He has been teaching drug awareness for several years and is qualified to teach our youth about the dangers of drug use. Everyone is invited to attend.
Proofs Of Residency Required For Students Attending Schools
All new and returning students in Water Valley Schools must furnish two proofs of residence for registration. Have your proofs of residence ready for copy, or bring copies ready to turn in, at registration. Information cards must be completed and two proofs of residence must be submitted before a student is issued a schedule. The parent/guardian must complete and sign the information card.
VFW Announces Bingo Action
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, July 31. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Road House Band Performs At VFW During Carnival Weekend
VFW Post 4100 welcomes the public to a musical night of entertainment by the Road House Band on Saturday night, August 1. The bands starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening or dancing to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Lions Club Carnival Activities Include Breakfast, Raffle
The Water Valley Lions Club will serve a Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning, August 1, at the Depot Building on Main Street. Serving will be from 6-10 a.m. and the menu is all your care to eat of pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee.
At this time the Lions will also have cheese for sale and raffle tickets for the television. The television will be given away during the noon ceremony at the gazebo on Carnival Day, Saturday, August 1. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member and cost $1 each or 6 for $5.
Lion Ernie Aune invites everyone to come out for a great meal and some wonderful fellowship.
Arts Council Offers Events Calendar For Artistic And Cultural Happenings
The Water Valley Arts Council Website now has an events calendar. Watervalleyartscouncil.com is the internet address for the new Water Valley Arts Council website, which will feature a calendar of artistic and cultural events as well as biographic sketches of local artists and performers, and examples of their works.
Individuals, community groups, businesses and religious organizations who are planning events such as recitals, concerts, studio showings, theatrical performances and workshops are encouraged to post the information on the Arts Council’s calendar. Organizers Announce O’Tuckolofa School Reunion
The O’Tuckolofa School Reunion will be held Saturday, August 8, in O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Food will be furnished. Everyone is invited to attend this reunion, especially former students, teachers, family and friends.
State Wildlife Agency Kicks Off Series Of Seminars In Yalobusha County
The Mississippi State University Extension Service and Wildlife and Fisheries Department is starting a new series of seminars scheduled on the second Tuesday night of each month at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.
The first wildlife seminar will be Tuesday, August 11, at 6:30 p.m., and the topic will be cool season wildlife food plots. John Gruchy, a Private Lands Biologist with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks, will conduct the seminar. 4-H Agent Provides Information On Showing Goats
The Lafayette County 4-H Agent, Margaret Webb, will conduct a seminar on showing goats in 4-H on Tuesday, August 4, 6 p.m., at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. Rules, regulations, and costs will be discussed. Anyone interested in showing goats in 4-H is encouraged to attend.

Tri-Lakes Hosts Summer Festival
The Tri-Lakes Fairground Association’s Summer Festival will be Aug. 6 – 8 at the Water Valley Fairgrounds located on Hwy. 315 across from the V.F.W. Post.
Mississippi Delta Shows will be returning with a variety of rides and games. Specials include armband nights when you can ride all you want between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. for $15 on Thursday and $20 on Saturday.
