Drug Awareness Is Topic At Saturday Program
Along the Way Ministry will host a drug awareness program for the youth of Water Valley on Saturday, August 15, beginning at 10 a.m. The program will be held at 119 Main Street (the old NAPA Building). The program will be taught by Pastor Phillip Brackett of Everdale Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Brackett is affiliated with the Bruce School District Drug Awareness Program. He has been teaching drug awareness for several years and is qualified to teach our youth about the dangers of drug use. Everyone is invited to attend.

Order Of The Eastern Star Announces Monthly Meeting
Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star, will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, August 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. Members are also reminded of the School of Instruction to be held on Friday, August 7. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. All members are urged to attend.
VFW Offers Friday Bingo Action
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, August 7. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p .m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Only Two Horse Shows Remain In This Season
There are only two more horse shows in August before the season ends. They will be held on the Saturdays of August 8th and 15th. Both shows are judged and speed event horse shows that will begin at 2pm. These shows are free and open to the public, so come out and enjoy the last shows of the season.
Rolling Thunder Will Perform At Weekly VFW Dance
Saturday night, August 8, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by Danny Sexton and Rolling Thunder Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening or dancing to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Monthly Wildlife Seminar Offers Information On Food Plots
The Mississippi State University Extension Service and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) are kicking off a new series of seminars scheduled monthly on the second Tuesday night at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. The first wildlife seminar will be Tuesday, August 11th, at 6:30 pm. The topic will be Cool Season Wildlife Food Plots, and will be conducted by John Gruchy, a Private Lands Biologist with the MDWFP. August Lunch Programs Offer Information About Fall Floral Fashion, Weed Management
There are two Quick Bites programs scheduled at the Yalobusha County Extension Service in August. These programs are held during the noon hour and the first one is Thursday, August 6 when Lynette McDougald, MSU Florist Manager, offers information about fall floral fashion.
The second lunch program is scheduled August 13, and Dr. Wayne Wells, MSU Turfgrass Specialist offers information about controlling weeds in your lawn. Anyone interested is invited to bring a sack lunch and join the programs at the county’s Multi-purpose Building in Coffeeville.
