Banner Lodge Announces Fish Fry

 A fish fry will be held at Banner Lodge #329 Saturday, September 5, between the hours of 5-8 p.m. The Lodge will serve a cat fish with all the trimmings, a drink and dessert for $8 per plate. Pine Valley School Reunion Is Set For September 19

The Pine Valley School Homecoming will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. in the school building. Please come and bring a favorite dish for lunch, which will will be served at 12 noon. Come out and see the work that has been done on the old school, said Joni Camp, publicity chairman.

 

Bingo Action Scheduled Friday

    VFW bingo will be played Friday night, August 28. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highways 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

Forest Meeting Includes Information On Switch Grass and Nature Photography

There will be a forest landowners meeting on Monday, August 31, 6:30 p.m., at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building.  Steve Gulledge, Area Forester from Bruce, will conduct the program on nature photography and switch grass.  All forest landowners are encouraged to attend and are asked to make reservations by calling our office at 675-2730 by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 28.

 

Arts Council Members Announce September 1 Meeting

The Water Valley Arts Council will meet on Tues.,Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Water Valley Main Street office at 207 North Main St.

Among the topics to be discussed will be Water Valley’s first “Art Crawl In The Fall”  scheduled on Sept. 18 and the CHAIR-ity chair auction event set for Dec. 5. The group is also seeking input and ideas for 2010 Mississippi arts grants.

Proceeds of the auction event will help support a local Summer Arts Program for children.

Class Of 1984 Celebrates Reunion During Homecoming Weekend

The Water Valley High School Class of 1984 will celebrate its 25th reunion the weekend of September 25, which is Water Valley High School homecoming weekend.  All classmates and faculty are invited to get together Friday night for the football game and Saturday for the reunion. Sav-A-Life Schedules Banquet At Oxford Church

    The Sav-A-life Banquet will be held Tuesday, September 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Oxford. Guest speaker will be Gwen Smith. Gwen was raised in church, rebelled in college, and got pregnant. She denied her beliefs and aborted her baby. Now she shares about it with others in word and song. Tickets are $15. High School Annuals Available From 2008-2009 School Year

The 2008-09 annuals have arrived.  If you prepaid for an annual you may pick it up at the high school.  If you didn’t prepay and would like to purchase an annual, the cost will be $50 and it will be on a first-come-first-serve basis, according to Jo Ann King, annual sponsor.

 

Honky Tonk Herds Provide Musical Entertainment At VFW Dance

  VFW Post 4100 will host a musical night of entertainment by The Honky Tonk Herds on Saturday night, August 29. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening, or dancing, to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Storm Watchers Class Will Be Offered At Pine Valley

    A storm watchers class will be held in the Pine Valley Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday, September 1, beginning at 6 p.m. Representatives from the National Weather Service will be present for this class. Farm Bureau Hosts Annual Business Meeting

The annual business meeting of the Yalobusha County Farm Bureau will be held on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 8 a.m. All members are invited to attend

 

Masons Announce Monthly Meeting

  St. Cyr Commandery No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, August 27, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are urged to support your Commandery by making a special effort to attend. Your help and support is needed during this coming year.
