WATER VALLEY – Although softball season is months away, fans and parents are busy working to raise money and perform work to finish construction on a girls’ softball field located next to Water Valley High School.
A tax-exempt organization, Water Valley Fans of Fast Pitch, Inc., has been set up to allow people to make contributions for the project, which has been underway for a couple of years. A fish fry scheduled Friday, Sept. 26, is also in the planning phases to help raise money for the ongoing fundraiser to finish the field.
Money raised will go toward a variety of needs remaining to finish work on the field including installing lights, purchasing sod, building a fence, concession stands and rest rooms.
“We are going to keep it cheap,” fundraiser coordinator Roy Vance said, referring to the September fish fry.
The fundraiser meets the criteria for Modern Woodmen of American’s Matching Funds Program, which means Vance’s company will match the money raised during the event, dollar for dollar, up to $2,500.
