Water Valley Artist Open Studios For Unique ‘Studio Crawl’

Artists from the Water Valley Arts Council will open their studios to the public the evening of Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. The fun begins at Bozarts, 403 N. Main St., where crawlers will see an exhibit of photography and pick up a map that will guide them to the participating studios. Crawlers may move from one studio to another at their own pace. Along the way, there will be light refreshments and music. The artists will be on hand to explain their techniques and answer questions. The tour will wind up at the White Star Tavern, 14 S. Main St., for live music, dancing, and socializing. The Studio Crawl is sponsored by the Arts Council of the Main Street Association.

 

Pine Valley School Reunion Is Scheduled September 19

The Pine Valley School Homecoming will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. in the school building. Please come and bring a favorite dish for lunch, which will will be served at noon. Come out and see the work that has been done on the old school, invites Joni Camp, publicity chairman.

 

Garden Club Sponsors Scarecrow Trail At City Park

    The Garden Club of Water Valley will sponsor a Scarecrow Trail at the City Park for October. The Club will have a workshop on September 26, beginning at 9 a.m.

  Awards will be given for each category: children; individual; business; and organizations.

 

United Blood Services Coordinate Blood Drive At High School

    United Blood Services (UBS) will be in the Multi Purpose Building Gym at Water Valley High School for a blood drive on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional  height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have signed permission from parents or guardian. UBS is this area’s non-profit community blood provider serving patients in Mississippi and West Alabama.

 

Fish Fry Will Raise Money To Complete Softball Field

  Water Valley Fans of Fast Pitch, Inc., will hold a fish fry on Friday, Sept. 26, to raise money to finish construction on a girl’s softball field located next to Water Valley High School. Parents and players will be selling tickets around town over the coming weeks.

 

Recognize Your Senior With An Ad In The High School Annual

Would you like to recognize your graduating senior?  You may do so by placing an ad in the WVHS annual. This ad may include a small personal note, a poem, and/or picture of your senior. All seniors will receive information regarding the ad sizes and prices but if you fail to receive this, contact Jo Ann King at 473-4864 to request this information. The deadline to turn in the ad is September 25.

 

Senior Pictures Scheduled Monday, September 28

Senior pictures (both formal and cap and gown) will be made on Monday, Sept. 28. There will be a $25 sitting fee due at that time and all students who have their picture taken will receive an 8×10 class composite.

Students are not obligated to purchase pictures but they will not be featured in the high school annual if they do not have their picture made.  

 

Yalobusha Republicans Schedule Thursday Meeting

 A Yalobusha County Republicians Meeting will be held Thrusday, September 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Mechanics Bank Community Room.

 

Bingo Will Be Played At VFW This Friday Night

VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, September 18. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

Road House Band Set To Play Saturday Night At VFW

  VFW Post 4100 welcomes the public to a musical night of entertainment by the Road House Band on Saturday night, September 19. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight.

Football Boosters Schedule Meeting

  The Water Valley Football Booster Club will meet September 21 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of Mechanics Bank. Everyone is encouraged to attend this meeting.

 

City of Sardis Invites All To Downtown Daze And Open Car Show Scheduled October 2

The Sardis Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its 1st Annual Downtown Daze & Open Car Show on Main Street in Sardis October 2. The Mississippi Delta Street Rodders will host the car show. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with judging at 1 p.m. and trophies awarded at 3 p.m. The Chamber is seeking crafters and artisans to participate. These vendors will be located at the Methodist Family Center on Main Street. There will be a variety of food vendors, as well as a pancake breakfast from 7-9 a.m. in the Methodist Fellowship Hall on Main Street.. Power Link Offers Help To Students

  Power Link is held the first and third Wednesdays of each month during the Water Valley school year. Power Link includes tutoring, open library services and an occasional specially-planned workshop for students. Power Link is open to all students. Power Link dates will be Oct. 7 and 21, Nov. 4 and 18, Dec. 2, Jan. 20, Feb. 3 and 17, March 3, April 7 and 21 and May 5.

 

Faculty/Parent Link Offers Opportunities For Interaction

  A Faculty/Parent Link is held once each semester at the Water Valley High School. The date for the Fall Link is October 20. Career Night is also scheduled for that evening for juniors and seniors and their parents. The Spring Link is scheduled for February 15. The Link includes opportunities for individual parent/teacher conferences, mini-sessions on pertinent topics and fellowship opportunities.

 

Diabetic Wellness Team Extends Invitation Sept. 23 Meeting

  The Water Valley Diabetic Wellness Team will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 23, at noon, in the Edgar Community Center Building in Rolling Hills. The public is invited to attend.

  The Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) need ladies who would like to be of service to the hospital and nursing Home. Pink Ladies Raffle Painting By The Late Effie Jones

  They Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will raffle a painting by the late Mrs. Effie Jones. The drawing will be held at the Pink Ladies November bake sale. Tickets can be purchased from any Pink Lady or at the bake sale.

 

DES Parent Support Group Meeting Scheduled For Sept. 22

  A Parent Support Group Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 22, in the Davidson Elementary School Cafeteria. Parents and community members are invited to meet at 5 p.m. The agenda includes the following: Consolidated Federal Programs; Parental Involvement; Homeless Policy; English Language Learner Policy; Review of Current Application; Recommendations, Comments, Suggestions.

 Projects will be: 5th-6th Grade Social; Butterfly Garden/Courtyard; Carnival T-shirt Sales; Fall Carnival; Character Program.

 

Gospel Bash 2009 Will Be Held In Grenada September 20

    Townes Entertainment presents Gospel Bash 2009 at Transformation Center, Highway 51, Grenada, September 20, beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. Guest include: Men on Mission of Grenada; Gospel Warriors of Bruce; Selvy Singers of Earle, Ark., Kelvin Willingham of Oxford; Determine of Tupelo; Harold Turrine of Tupelo; and Vision of Water Valley. Doors open at 4 p.m. This is a benefit for Transformation Center.

 

Trail Ride Benefits First Christian Church Youth Group

  A benefit trail ride for the First Christian Church Youth Group will be held Saturday, September 26, from 8:30 a.m. until.

  The cost will be $20 per rider, with lunch included. Camping will also be available. The ride begins at Ford’s Well on County Road 557.
