County’s 4-H Agent Schedules Informative Session On October 22
“Hey Kids! Do you like travel? Do you enjoy animals? Do you like to be outside?,” questions Mary Mason Furr, Yalobusha County 4-H Agent.
Well…if you answered yes, 4-H offers opportunities in these areas and many more. To learn more about 4-H, you are invited to attend a quick informational session Thursday, October 22, 6 p.m. in the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building at Coffeeville. Parents are urged to bring your children and learn how you can get them involved in 4-H.

Masonic Chapters Schedule Meeting
McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle Thursday, October 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members of these two Masonic bodies are encouraged to attend. Your help and support during this Masonic year is needed.
Rolling Thunder Entertains At VFW
Saturday night, October 10, VFW Post 4100 welcomes the public to a musical night of entertainment by the Rolling Thunder Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight.

Field Day Offers Demonstration On Plant Varieties
The Jamie L. Whitten Plant Materials Center, Highway 330 (west of Coffeeville), will host a “Wildlife Plantings Field Day” on October 15. Registration will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Learn what to plant for deer, turkey, ducks, dove, and quail. See demonstrations of wildlife habitat management techniques and over 25 different plantings of both cool and warm-season food and cover plantings. Hear presentations by wildlife biologists from NRCS, MDWFP, and MSU Extension. Visit seed company and dealer booths – free of charge. Lunch will be provided. Learn About The Origin Of Vann’s Mill At Historical Society Meeting
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 15, in its headquarters, the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. Julia York Fernandez will speak on “The Vann Family.” Julia is descended from the Vanns, for whom the community of Vann’s Mill, located in eastern Yalobusha County, was named.
October is also the month Historical Society members feature a “Harvest Display,” which was started by Tom Moorman years ago. Members are urged to take a walk in the woods, gardens and yards and collect some of Mother Nature’s offerings for this popular display. The public is invited to all meetings of the Society. Christmas Parade Will Roll Through The Valley On December 5
The annual Water Valley Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, December 5, starting at 1 p.m. The rain date will be the following Saturday, December 12, if needed.
All churches, businesses, factories, school groups, and individuals are urged to participate in the Christmas parade. Contact J. C. Benefit Raises Money To Offset Medical Expenses For Patient
A benefit for Megan Cannon will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Calhoun County Multi Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Megan was injured in a car crash on June 7 and has required extensive medical treatment. She is the daughter of Brad and Kelly (Goodwin) Cannon of Calhoun City and granddaughter of Keny and Cheryl Goodwin of Water Valley. The benefit will feature grilled chicken plates for $10. Registration Scheduled For Youth League Flag Football
Registration for NFL Flag Football in the Magnolia Youth League will be held Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Crawford Sports Complex. Pine Valley Invites Public To Haunted Hollow Trail
The Pine Valley Volunteer Fire Department will have their Haunted Hollow Trail the weekend of October 23 and 24.
“Please make plans to join us for a weekend of fun,” invites Chief Ricky Wood. The money raised will be used to purchase equipment for the fire truck. Signs will be put out to detour around the road closing.
Fundraiser Will Help 4-H Competitor Attend National Competition
There will be a 4-H Shooting Sports fundraiser to help Alex Calder attend the National Competition.
A yard sale will be held in the Multipurpose Building, Coffeeville, Saturday, October 31, from 7 a.m. until noon. Whitetail Deer Specialist Hosts Seminar In Coffeeville
On October 13, there will be a “Managing White-Tailed Deer” seminar by Dr. Steve Demarais, MSU White-Tailed Deer Specialist, 6:30 pm, at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building. This program will be through distance learning. Topics will include:
• Deer Management strategies to meet your needs
• Carrying capacity (quantity vs. quality)
• Doe harvest/buck harvest management.

VFW Invites The Public To Play Friday Night Bingo
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, October 9. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their post home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6, and the first of 24 games will begin at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
