Quick Bites Program Provides Holiday Flower Information

There will be a Quick Bites program on “Sights and Sounds of the Holiday Season” Thursday, Nov. 12, during the lunch hour beginning at noon.  Bring a sack lunch and join us as Lynette McDougald, MSU Florist Manager, shows off the sights and sounds of the holiday season with flowers, floral arrangements, and so much more!

Caulfield Will Be Featured In Greenwood Poetry Show

Dessie Caulfield of Water Valley is one of seven members of the Delta Branch of National League of American Pen Women who will be featured at Cottonlandia Museum located on Hwy. 82 West in Greenwood.  Opening reception for the show which runs through December will be Nov. 8, Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.


Lion’s Offer Pancake Breakfast On November 7

    The Water Valley Lions Club’s November Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, November 7, from 6:30-9 a.m. The breakfast will be served in the Depot Building, located on Main Street. For $5 per plate you may eat all you care to of pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.

  On this date you may also place your cheese orders, or you may place these orders with any Lion member at anytime.

  Lion Ernie Aune invites everyone to come out and enjoy a delicious meal, place cheese orders, and enjoy some great fellowship, while helping with all the charitable projects of the local Lions Club.

Heflin House Announces Christmas Bazaar

    The Heflin House Museum’s Christmas Bazaar is set for November 21 and opens at 10 a.m. The Bazaar will feature baked goods, gift items and jewelry. VFW Schedules Bingo Action

  VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, November 6. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of bingo in their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6, and the first of 24 games will start at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 Road House Band Performs Saturday Night At The VFW

  Saturday night, November 7, VFW Post 4100 welcomes the public to a musical night of entertainment by the Road House Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening, or dancing, to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Waterfowl Management Is Topic At The Multi-purpose Building

    On November 10, Dr’s Rick Kaminski and Brian Davis, MSU’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture experts, will conduct a seminar on water fowl management in Mississippi.  This seminar will be by distance learning at the Yalobusha County Multipurpose Building at 6:30 pm,.  If you have any questions, please call the Extension office at 675-2730.

VFW Makes Plans To Honor Veterans

  VFW Post 4100 will have a ceremony downtown on Main Street at the monument Veterans Day, November 11, beginning at 11 a.m. Afterwards, at the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, there will be a free fish dinner. The meal will consist of fish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, fries, tea or coffee. Members and guests are invited. If weather is bad the ceremony will also be held in the Post Home.

Blackmur Library Changes Hours Of Operation

    Beginning Monday, Nov. 2, Blackmur Library will have new operating hours. The new hours are Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. until noon.

Yalobusha Homemakers Cancel Holiday Bazaar

  The second annual Holiday Bazaar, originally scheduled for November 7, has been cancelled due to lack of participation.

Extension Service Makes Plans For Genealogy Fair

    The Yalobusha County Extension office invites local genealogy enthusiasts to participate in a genealogy fair scheduled November 6 at the Yalobusha County Extension office.  The genealogy fair will offer beginners a chance to learn more about conducting genealogical research.  Sessions will begin at noon and go until 5 p.m. 

    Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a fun afternoon learning how to dig up your family’s history. Please call the Extension office at 662-675-2730 to sign up.  

Pink Ladies Host Annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will hold their annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale on Saturday, November 21, in front of Turnage Drug Store.

  The drawing for the painting by Effie Jones will be held at the close of the sale.

Water Valley’s Order Of The Eastern Star Schedule Tuesday Meeting

  Water Valley Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star will hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, November 10, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. This will be OES’s Friendship Night. There will be a Pot Luck at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting at 7:30. All members are urged to attend.

American Legion Will Prepare Thanksgiving Dinner

Childcare Trainings Scheduled At Multi-purpose Building

There will be two ELG Childcare Trainings offered at the Yalobusha County Extension Office next week.  The first one is scheduled Thursday, Nov. 12, beginning at 6:15 p.m. entitled “Mathematical Concepts for three and four year-old Children.” 

The next training is Saturday, Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 pm, entitled “How Children Learn, The Learning Environment, and Developing Thematic Units and Lesson Plans (Part 1).”  Please call Meredith Betts at 662-325-4129 to register.

Coffeeville Library Friends Host Decorating Program

    The Friends of the Coffeeville Public Library will host “Deck the Halls, Y’all” Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Family Life Center.   This holiday decorating program has become a very popular annual event enjoyed by many throughout our area.  Following the program, the Friends will present a Tasting Tea of cookies and punch with free recipe booklets provided to those in attendance.

    Ellen Jeffery Shaw of Bruce will be guest presenter, once again, for this creative holiday decorating program.  Ellen has a degree in Interior Design from Mississippi State University and is co-owner of Jeffrey’s in Bruce.  She is married to Joey Shaw, and they are the parents of two young children.

    No admission will be charged, but the association will take donations for their annual “First Books for First Readers” initiative, which purchases a brand new hardback book for every first grader in the Coffeeville School District each year. 

    The goal of “First Books for First Readers” is to encourage reading, foster a love of books and libraries, and allow every child to experience the joy of owning a new book. 

    “Deck the Halls, Y’all” holiday decorating program and Tasting Tea are free gifts to the community, and the public is invited to attend.  Please join  efforts to promote books and reading by making a donation to “First Books for First Readers” when you attend “Deck the Halls, Y’all” on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2:30.
