City, County Office Will Close For Thanksgiving Holiday

The City of Water Valley City Hall and offices will be closed Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 for Thanksgiving holidays.

Wednesday and Thursday’s Garbage Route will run together on Wednesday, November 25. Commercial garbage route only will run on Friday, November 27.

County offices will also be closed for the holiday.

 

Families First Resource Center Schedules Fatherhood Program

 Covenant House, Mississippi Families First Resource Center of Grenada, Calhoun and Yalobusha invites you to attend Responsible Fatherhood “A Community in Crisis: Targeting the Problem…Becoming the solution.” This program is designed specifically for fathers, faith and community-based organizations, healthy marriage and responsible fatherhood coalitions, civic and community leaders. It will be held on Friday, November 20, beginning at 7 p.m. in Pleasant Hill M.B. Church. The church is located on CR 154, Tillatoba. “Please bring your wife and children,” invites Larry Watson, instructor, and Rev. Robert Reed, pastor.

 

Jeff Davis Reunion Scheduled At Bethel Baptist Church

  The Jeff Davis School Reunion will be held at 6 p.m. on December 5 in the Bethel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (Please note this new location). The Church is located at 1938 CR 220 (Old Pine Valley Road). Those attending are asked to please bring a covered dish for the meal. All former students, spouses and friends are invited to attend.

 

Davidson Elementary Announces Character Program

    A Character Program will be held at Davidson Elementary School Friday, November 20, from 9-10 a.m. in the gym. Mary Freeman is in charge of the music and students in grades K to sixth will sing. The title of the program is “Thinking About Thanking.”

    “All parents and members of the community are invited to attend this special program,” stated Linda Williamson.

 

Diabetic Wellness Team Releases Date Of Monthly Meeting

  The Water Valley Diabetic Wellness Team will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 18, beginning at noon. The meeting will be held in the Edgar Community Center Building in Rolling Hills. The public is invited to attend.

 

Arts Council Hosts Chair-ity Auction

The Water Valley Arts Council will host the Chair-ity Auction Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at Bozarts. Get ready to enjoy a champagne (and non-alcoholic) reception with plenty of hors d’oeuvres. Lively bidding is expected for chairs decorated by professional and amateur artists. The event is a fundraiser for a summer art camp planned for children in the community. Tickets may be purchased at local businesses and at the door.

 

Pink Ladies Host Annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will hold their annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale on Saturday, November 21, in front of Turnage Drug Store.

  The drawing for the painting by Effie Jones will be held at the close of the sale.

  “Come by and get your Thanksgiving goodies and tickets for the drawing,” invites Ann Hurst, Publicity Chair.

 

American Legion Will Prepare Thanksgiving Dinner

  The American Legion will have its Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday, November 19, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Legion Hut. All members and their guests are invited to attend. For more information call Joe Stribling at 473-9810.

 

Dates Released For Annual Thanksgiving Service, Meal

    The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held Wednesday, November 25, beginning at 7 p.m., in Water Valley First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Keith Davis, pastor of Springdale Family Worship Center, will bring the message. During this service an offering will be received to help defray the cost of the Thanksgiving meal to be served Thanksgiving Day from 10:30 a.m. until noon in the White Star Kitchen, located on South Main Street, Water Valley. This is a project of Compassion Ministries.

  If you are unable to attend the service on Wednesday night, but would like to make a donation, make your check payable to “Compassion Food Ministries” and mail it to Mrs. Margie Pilcher, 22 CR 389, Water Valley, MS 38965. Mrs. Pilcher is treasurer of Compassion Ministries.

 

Batesville Garden Club Announces Christmas Tour

    The Batesville Garden Club will present its annual Christmas Tour with three homes, a business, and a church, on display Sunday, December 6, from 1-5 p.m.

  On the tour will be the homes of Mark Heafner in Johnson Subdivision, Bill and Renalda Burnett in Westmoreland Heights, and Stan and Melissa Sullivant on Highway 35 South. Also on the tour are St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and the law offices of Charlie Baglan, which are housed in the old Post Office. Both buildings are on the National Registar of Historic Places. American Legion Host Gospel Music Show in Calhoun City

    There will be a Gospel Music Show at the American Legion Building in Calhoun City on Friday, December 4, beginning at 6 p.m. Entertainment will be by New Creation, Shiloh Gospel Band, and Melodic Voices. “This will be ‘A night to remember and a promise to Renew and Uplift Your Spirits,” stated Barbara Hearn. There will be a $7 admission charge, with barbecue plates available for sale. This is a community-wide event and presented by the Southern Quality Productions. For more info, call (662) 414-0260.

 

VFW Announces Bingo Action

  VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, November 20. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 p.m. and the first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

Road House Band Performs At Saturday Night Dance

  Saturday night, November 21, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by the Road House Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening, or dancing, to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. VFW Extends Thanks To Participants In Veteran’s Day Event

  “VFW Post 4100 would like to thank everyone who supported our veterans on Veterans Day and attended our ceremony downtown. We also hope everyone enjoyed the fish dinner afterwards. Thank you for all your support,”  says Commander Sam Phillips.

 

 VFW Invites Veterans To Thanksgiving Supper

  VFW Post 4100 would like to extend an invitation to all veterans and their guests to attend our Thanksgiving Dinner at the Post Home on Sunday, November 22. “We will begin serving at 1 p.m.,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. The menu will be Turkey and Dressing with all the trimmings. The Post Home is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.

 

 Masons Change Meeting Date Due To Thanksgiving Holiday

    St. Cyr Commandry No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, November 19, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. Please note that this meeting is on the third Thursday due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. It is pot luck and begins at 6:30. Family and friends are invited to fellowship with the Commandry. Please support your Commandry by making a special effort to attend. Your help and support is needed during this coming year.

 

 Gift Of Love Ministry Schedules Youth Awareness Program

  The Gift of Love Ministry will have their second youth awareness program on Saturday, November 21, in the Everdale M.B. Church CLC Building, starting at 2 p.m.

  The topic will be Health and Nutrition (diabetes and making food choices). All youth departments are invited to attend.

  “We are asking that each person attending the meeting bring one can of food or one package of dry food for our Thanksgiving baskets that will go to a family in need,” stated Sister Dale Allen.
